Hey Arizona, take some time to email these Legislatures. AZCDL has an important bill they are trying to push through this year.

On February 17, 2009, HB 2607, the AzCDL-requested Campus Carry bill, was assigned to the House Education and Judiciary committees. HB 2607 removes the authority of a governing board to prohibit a person who possesses a CCW permit from carrying a concealed firearm on the property of a public educational institution (i.e., College or University): http://www.azcdl.org/html/2009_bills.html#hb2607 .

The deadline for all House bills to be heard is still March 13th, less than three weeks away. It's time to let the committee Chairmen know that there is a large amount of support for HB 2607, and that they should schedule it for a hearing soon.

The Chairman of the House Education committee is Representative Rich Crandall:

The Chairman of the House Judiciary committee is Representative Adam Driggs:http://www.azleg.gov/MembersPage.asp?Member_ID=20&Legislature=49

We urge all of you receiving this Alert to contact both committee chairmen, politely urging them to schedule HB 2607 for a hearing by their committee. A personal letter is always best. Below is a cut-and-paste template you may use as an example. Following the sample letter are the email addresses of Representatives Crandall and Driggs in both semi-colon and comma separated formats. Subject: Please schedule HB 2607 for a hearing

Mr. Chairman,

The Arizona Citizens Defense League has informed me that HB 2607 has been assigned to your committee but has yet to be scheduled for a hearing, and the March 13th deadline for hearing bills in House committees is just a few weeks away. As the chairman of your committee, I urge you schedule HB 2607 for a hearing so that it can be debated and voted on by your committee before it is too late.

The passage of HB 2607 is very important to me. My right and responsibility to defend myself and my loved ones does not end on school property. Federal law (18 USC 922(q)(2)(B)(ii)) already allows adult concealed weapons (CCW) permit holders to possess firearms on school property. HB 2607 aligns Arizona law with Federal law.

Again, I urge you, as the chairman of your committee, to schedule HB 2607 for a hearing.

Sincerely,
