This seems like a funny question but I have never done any bird hunting and might be going out for some Dove in a week or so. When ceaning these do you guys pluck them or just skin them? Any advice for recipes? TIA

i use the same method as cleaning quail.

1) pluck out about a quarter sized spot on the breast.
2) cut just through the skin.
3) peel the skin back to expose the breast
4) holding the bird with it's wings behind make cuts on either sid of the breast. you aren't cutting the breast but the stuff that hold the breast to the rest of the crap in the abdomen.
5) put your thumb underneath the bottom of the breast and pull up. it will then only be held at the collar bone. either cut along the collar bone or just cut the bone itself.
6) rinse with cold water that has a little salt in it.

if you're going to freeze it pat the meat dry and put into a freezer bag

if you're going to fry 'em right up. sautee some mushrooms and onions in a little butter then cook the breasts for about 3 min on each side over a med-low heat.

With doves I just rip the skin off. I cook them by boiling or bake the bird covered in bacon.

Same here. Just a few seconds per bird.

I always hated getting vague info on cleaning animals. I'm new to it but here's what I've been doing. With some practice it got pretty easy. First I cut off the head and wings. Cut both close to the body. Then pull off the feathers over the breast area. You can see where the breast bone ends through the skin. Cut the skin at that area so that you can get your fingers or thumb in there. I then work my thumbs under the breast bone towards the top of the bird. This will seperate the skin and loosen the breast part up. It gets a bit difficult towards the top of the bird where some bones will still be attached. That's about it...

Hey I just rip the breast off. I don't cut off any thing. Sometimes if the wings are giving me trouble I break them off. Just push your thumb in under the point of the breast. Pull toward the head and pull it off. Then push the skin off with your thumbs. This takes about 45 seconds per bird. Put them in a bag; put them in the icechest; finish at the house.

Hey good luck. Kill some for all of us. I like mine cooked on the grill. Fillet the breast, half a jalapeno, and some baccon.

Even if I had any "hijacking" intentions (which I don't), I'm sure it'd be difficult to highjack a thread started by such a deep thinker! :)
