So help me out here. I'll be getting my FOID soon and I'll be buying a G19. Where in the Chicagoland area has the "cheapest" or "best" price for it.
I'd LOVE to buy new but if I can get a decent used one, I'll probably get it.

I know that Cabelas is pricey, so their out! What about local gunshops?
Someone here has to know...thanks!

Right now, the best prices on a Glock comes down to who has the model in stock that you want !
Shortest supply right now seems to be a G19, our shop has a standing order with 4 different distrubitotrs to get as many as we can.....we average about 1 every 2-3 weeks ! Seems like as I take 1 name off the list as the guns come in, 2 more folks ADD their names to it ! Right now I'm about 7 G19's behind.

If you're still looking for a G19 I saw this in the classified section today and thought it was a good deal:

While GAT Guns has a huge selection, buyer beware! GAT lists two prices... the cost for the gun in cash and a 6-12% increase if purchased with a credit card.

Whatever you do, don't buy the gun in Cook County. There are few, if any gun shops to begin with and the dealers take full advantage of the lack of competition by overcharging. You would be best served by heading out to the burbs.

I've been to many places. Maxons-Nice people and place but their gun prices are really high due to them being in cook county. Don't buy guns at cabela's or bass pro shops. Their glocks are like $50-60 more than other places. I think the best place overall for gun prices especially glocks is Gat Guns. I bought my Glock 19 NIB for $499 plux tax. I also bought my Glock 23 there for also $499 plux tax. Remember just to pay in cash because like someone said they take more in tax if you pay in credit card. The best thing to do is put a $50 deposit on a credit card then pay the rest. I remember getting my Rock Island 1911 from Gat for i believe $379 and it was Maxons for like $470 or something. I only go to maxons for their range really.

Note on the FOID cards.....

State law REQUIRES the card to be either issued or denied in 30 days....(yeah, right)

The backlog is so heavy that our customers are seeing them in 8-10 weeks !
When a customer does a FOID thru us, we give them the recipt showing they applied, it's dated and shows time on it.
Not much, BUT if a person is renewing their card & the state doesn't come thru in time, it would make a valid argument in court showing compliance, this from our corporate atty.
We suggest that folks write or call their state Rep. complaining about the state's own non-compliance with the law, and suggesting more staffing can't hurt !

Check out R Guns across the river from GAT guns on Rt. 31....or check out the Kane Co. Gun show in St. Charles....Mega Sports in Plainfield as well.....Rinks in LockPort too, if they're still in business.......good luck......

GAT Guns - Good
Rinks - Good
JR Shooting Sports - Great
(Gonna have to check out R Guns, never been there :dunno:).

Stay away from Mega Sports:

-Great selection, but they are overpriced on EVERYTHING (especially ammo)!
-Most of the clerks are rude, ignorant and condescending (but hey, they all get to carry guns).
-The range is excellent, but their rates are ridiculously high and the range attendants are overbearing imbeciles. (Try coming in there with your own factory loaded ammo).

Normally I keep an open mind and don't bash gun dealers. If this were based on a one time visit, I would have given them the benefit of the doubt. However, every visit I've made to Mega Sports has been an unpleasant experience. I speak to a lot of patrons at other gun shops and ranges in the area and the general consensous is that Mega Sports is B-R-U-T-A-L!:crying:

Mega's range is a bit cheaper than JRs. 17.99 compared to 19.99 bif you buy ammo at both. Also 9mm is a buck cheaper per box (50) at mega. Also recently bought a 19 at Mega, they were about 10 bucks cheaper than JRs, and have a much better selection. The folks there are a bit uptight I will give you that.

Rule #1. Never buy ammo at the range. Wal-Mart is ALWAYS cheaper. But since there's a ammo shortage you must have to buy ammo at the range. The cheapest 9mm at most gun stores is around $12-15 for a box of 50 and that's winchester, blazer, or wolf. At Wal-mart its $19.XX for a box winchester value pack for 100 rounds of 9mm. It's around $29.XX for a box of 100 rounds of .45ACP. You can't beat wal-mart's prices. I stopped buying ammo at the range years ago lol...I must of saved hundreds and maybe thousands of dollars already hah.

A few days ago, I bought some Remington 9mm rounds for $14.50 a box, it had 50 in the box. These were bought at a gun shop!

If you guys don't already know if you join Glock Shooting Sports Foundation (GSSF) you can get 1 certificate per year to purchase a new Glock at the LE price. I just found this out also.

Now here is the bad part..... In Illinois there are 2 Glock LE Dealers GAT Guns in Dundee and Ray Oherrons Police Supply in Lombard & Danville.

Now the even worse part..... They both screw you and still over charge. Current LE price with standard sights on 9's and 40's is $398.20. Both the above charge just over $430.00.... still better then retail.

I bought my G22 15rd fixed sights from GAT Guns in Dundee,IL - $539+tax cash price. It's not so bad compared to Bass Pro ($639), Gander Mt ($629) before tax. A lot of gun stores are getting ridiculous with their prices...like its damn gold...:steamed:. I don't even wanna talk about the ammo they sell....

^^^They are taking advantage of ALL of the paranoid gun owners, who keep "hoarding" ammo and buying LOTS of guns...

I'd take advantage too! It's the American way my friend!

Thanks for the tip man! I called them and they charge only $9 for the range. UNLIMITED TIME . Mega wants $25, Midwest Guns $20, Maxon $16. But this is unbeatable . I'm heading down there tomorrow. I don't care how crappy it looks - it's a range.

Our small shop can't compete with GAT, hate to admit it....
BUT, we're in llne with GM & BP on price.....and I give much better customer service than GAT !
I get a LOT of gun repairs from folks who went to GAT but get treated like dirt when they want service.

Still working on a range setup, but space & money are a bit tight.

We just got a partial case of 9mm in , it was b/o'd since early March.
Our Dlr. cost from the wholesaler was $14.47 a box ! (Blazer brass)
When Wally World has it, they sell it for less than I can buy it for. But they limit it to 6 bxs./day per customer.
Might be time for me to make friends over there ! Or take friends with me to pick up ammo !
