Greetings fellow Florida Glockers! :wavey:

The Suncoast Gun Show is coming to the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa this weekend. I'm thinking of having my wife and I attend the CCW class that is offered at the show. But first I have a few questions for anyone here who has taken their CCW class at the gun show before.

I understand the class is being taught by the staff of 911 Training Academy/International Protective Services (http://www.911trainingacademy.com/) out of Hollywood, FL. How was the quality of the training and the instructors? Were there a lot of people going through the class? Did you feel the class was worthwhile? Would you recommend other people to take the class or should they go elsewhere for CCW training?

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

If you want training, a gunshow CWP class is not the place to get it.

If you want a "quick fix" means of satisfying the state's training requirement for qualifying for a CWP, then the gun show course is just the ticket. You may have to go to some range after the show and fire a few rounds...so it may not be possible to get it all done quickly at the show.

If you're in a hurry to get permits, do the gunshow class, and then plan to get real training elsewhere.

its convenient to get your finger prints, application with basic instruction on how to complete it, and fire a round at a range to show competency for the basic requirements.

i got the photo done there but it was so small and blurry that i didn't want to risk sending it in and getting rejected so i ended up spending $7 at cvs and getting a passport photo done there.

and i had zero problems following their suggestions for submitting my application, prints, photo, etc. got my permit on the first try after about 30 days. this was about a year ago.

I can't comment on Tampa but Ft. Lauderdale Sun Coast show at War Memorial is generally 8 bucks.

i wanna say they raised it to $8 in tampa since it is so popular, but it may still be $7. parking is $5

i was out there yesterday helping a friend set up his table.

didnt see anything that exciting. glocks were starting at $585. ak's starting at 750+

the ladies that run it are not very nice people to deal with so i stay away from suncoast stuff as much as possible.

ill agree with everyone else, if you just want the permit go to the show (approx $35-$50), if you want training and the permit go to a one on one training, you will learn much more (approx $50-$100).
when i see them doing the show courses, they spend most of the time walking you through filling out the paperwork.
you can then pay approx $20 extra for the fingerprints, range fee and photo so all you have to do is drop it in the mail with the MO for $117 and get your permit.

Titus Glockus,

If you haven't attended the gunshow CCW class already check out The Indoor Shooting Company (http://www.indoorshootingcompany.com/) in Thonotosassa (E. Fowler Ave near Hwy 301), Shoot Straight (http://www.shootstraightonline.com/) (Hwy 301 at MLK Blvd, right across from the fairgrounds), or Shooting Sports (http://shootingsportstampa.com/) (N. Dale Mabry Hwy near Waters Ave).

These are all fixed locations that will offer you the opportunity to complete your CCW competency requirement in one spot without the noise and confusion of the gunshow going on in the background and having to go back and forth from the show to a range.
