What is your favorite deer rifle and load?

I have a T/C Encore in .308 with a 26" barrel that shoots like a dream. I put a Pro Hunter camo buttstock and a normal camo forend on it, and a Leupold 3-9x40mm on it. The stock makes the recoil feel like a .243. Here is a picture of the rifle, and the rifle after it has done its job!

-Muzzy 100 grain Broadhead - 70# PSE Bow
-Lee 300 grain WFN cast bullet in .452" caliber, pushed to ~1250 fps with IMR 4227 or lil'gun or 2400. Excellent wound channel, two holes, no tracking required so far.
-Ranch Dog's 425 grain WFN cast bullet pushed to ~1500 fps out of my Marlin 1895 with SR4759. This load will travel N-S through a Black Bear and as far as I know is still eastbound...

Back when I used to be able to go hunting I preferred a Marlin 336 in 30-30 with 170gr Core Locts. Yeah I know, not high tech but I never had anything run away. Only deer I ever lost was with a 30-06 at close range(we figured the bullet never opened up)

I also use a A-Bolt in 300wsm with 180gr Winchester Silver box(forget the exact name)

Rem 700 30.06 does the trick every time. I have complete confidence in this rifle, when I press the trigger something dies! Esox357.

winchester 150grains ST in a 30-06. In reality you don't need a lot to kill a WT-deer.

My number 1 deer rifle is a Rem 700 action #6 SS Shilen 26" barrel 25-06 in a H & S Precision stock with a Zeiss Diavari 3-12X56 shooting 117 gr Sierra Pro Hunters with 49 grs IMR 4350, CCI BR2 primer, Rem case. Bang flop 99% of the time.

Number 2 deer rifle is a Rem 700 action Varmint SS Heart 21 1/2" barrel tight neck 308 Win. in a Brown Precision stock. Use to be a hunter class bench gun. Leupold VXII 3-9X50 shooting 125 Nosler ballistic tips with 46 grs IMR 4895, WW case, CCI BR2 primer.

Number three deer rifle is a Ruger 77 action unknow make CM Varmint barrel 24" long in 30X47 HBR caliber in a Ruger wood stock that is glassed. This was a hunter class bench rifle also. Tasco Euro Class 30mm tube 3-12X56 scope. 125 Nosler ballistic tip 42 grs IMR 4895, CCI BR2 primer, WW case, Cases are made by shorting a 300 Savage case 10 thousands of an inch in the body and leaving the 10 thousands in the neck length.

I just picked up a Rem 700 with a 27 3/4" Shilen CM #5 barrel in 264 Win Mag and put it in a Hogue full bed stock topped with a Meopta Meostar 3-12X56. I have not had much time to fiddle with it yet but so far it will shoot eveything you put in it under 1 inch for 3 shots @ 100 yards. I will diffently get put into the deer hunting rotation.

I killed 9 deer this past season. 4 Buck and 5 doe. Two of the bucks were nice 9 pointers.

Yes it is a 3-9X40 Nikon Monarch UCC...BDC. I've only fired it enough to get the scope close. All I had was some Rem 150 gr. cor-lok's. I want to fine tune it with some 130's, Federal, or Winchester BST's..We'll see what it likes.

The rifle in this picture is the custom Rem. 700 in 308 Win. that I talked about in my other post. It is the only picture of any of the rifles I mentioned that I have right now. I will take pictures of the others latter. Here are the pictures of the two 9 pointer bucks I got this year. The 8 point on the left of my 9 point in the back of the truck was taken by my buddy on the same day. I did the paint job on this rifle.

I have two favorites - both Rem 788's. One is 6MM Rem - I shoot 100gr Remington Power-Points. I have a Leupold VX-II 2-7 on this rifle.

The other is in .243 Win - also shooting 100 gr Rem PP. Nikon 3-9.

I have another 6MM - Ruger 77 w/2-7 Redfield. I've retired it after quite a few bucks - some of them were pretty nice. It was accurate - but not as much so as my 788's.

Both 788's are very accurate. I've found, over the years, that I don't need anymore 'medicine' than a caliber this size to take down deer fast and final.
