Hey guys, I'm shopping for my first handgun and concluded that the G19 would be the best fit for me. The problem is that we don't have many available here in Socal, and the retailers who do have them in stock are gouging ($599). As much as I want the gun, I hate the feeling of paying more than I usually should for something. Anyone know of any cheaper way to purchase a Glock in Cali? Or perhaps buy one out of state and have it shipped? I was hoping that I'd get the LEO discount $399) since I'm an analyst for the Los Angeles Police Department but it only pertains to actual officers I guess. Any insight would help, thanks!

Drive to Nevada?

Check online and see if it can be shipped to a local dealer.

Brilliant! Travel all the way to AZ to save $30 and then transport over state lines....

There is a very nice used G19 at Wild Bills in Elk Grove and I would move on it fast if I were you.

Call for their price- 916-686-7699.

If you want a picture, let me know. Dont go out of state, it will only cost you more.

Thanks for all your tips guys. I'll definitely look into your recommendations.

Digimonster, no I'm in downtown.

Is there any other way? I've been hearing about joining some sort of Glock Foundation in order to qualify for a discount?

My LEO also brought up another idea, could he purchase a G19 for the LEO discounted price and then sell it to me (FTF)? If he sold it to me for the price that he bought it I'm guessing I'd only have to pay $25 on top for the transfer?

Any more insight would help. Thanks for the warm welcome, I'm looking forward to being part of the Glock community soon!

If you joined the Glock Sport Shooting Foundation (GSSF), you could request a certificate which allowed you to purchase one Glock through selected (law enforcement) dealers at a very good price. In addition, you can enjoy shooting in GSSF matches (there are two per year in SoCal) and perhaps win a free Glock.

However, I don't see the offer on the GSSF website now, so it may have expired. :dunno:

I thought under california law, every firearm sale, including those between private sellers, is subject to a background check conducted by a licensed dealer and the sale is also subject to the state's 10-day waiting period. Transaction requiring a form 4473 to be filled by your FFL will be subject to a NICS check. It should be just like a new gun purchase with full background check.

You are right.. it's not worth it just to save a few bucks. Just in case DOJ sees it differently.

Hmm too bad Wild Bills isn't local to me so I'm guessing that after shipping at receiving fees I'd be in the same boat as spending $599.

All of the transfer stuff is quite true. The "straw purchase" law, and I can't recall if it is state or federal or both, outlaws purchase of a handgun by one individual for the express purpose of selling it to another. Of course, somebody could buy a gun and rather quickly decide that he didn't like it and wanted to sell it. The law might be rather difficult to enforce unless somebody is doing stuff like that on a regular basis. :dunno:

I guess I'm one of the suckers who bought a G19 for $599 at Turner's. The cheapest price any other shop quoted me was $549, but they hadn't seen a G19 for months, and had no idea when their orders would come in. I finally found 1 G19 after calling over two dozen shops and just bit the bullet (pardon the pun) and bought it. I figure I'm just doing my part to stimulate the economy, right? Anyway, this Turner's had almost no pistols whatsoever, they had a few .45 GAP Glocks, some high dollar fancy 1911s, a few wheelguns, and that was about it. My G19 was probably the only 9mm they had.

Try to look on the bright side: if you paid $50 or even $100 more for your G19 than the "best" price, that only works out to $5 or $10 a year over the next 10 years of shooting it! Keep it longer and the per-year cost is even lower.

I have been saying that in here for months now. Don’t baulk at the price of Glocks. They are long term investments and the pennies you guys are trying to save are going to cost you dollars in the long run.

When it comes to firearms, cheapness or frugal isn’t a factor. Getting one while you can is and the biggest consideration is your personal safety. You can’t put a price on that.

Stop pinching pennies, get a Glock, survive and live another day.

If you want to play by the rule, which I recommend you will need 10 rnd Magizines, The California version will come with two ten round Magizines, there go for 25 to 30 bucks each. Right there your saving 60 bucks. You could always get hi cap magizines later if you move to AZ or somewhere they are legal which you probably wont since to have a secure job. To me it doesnt sound like its worth all the trouble to buy an out of state gun.

I had a Glock 21 and brought it to California with me for 7 months I lived there, I was afraid to take it to the forest or the gun range for fear of getting caught with the five 13 rd magizines. The Glock 21 10 rd magizines dident grow on trees like the 13 rnds do here in Phoenix AZ. I have since traded it for a Glock 30 and still use some of the 13 rnd mags for practice. However I wont be bringing the 13 rnd mags with me if I ever move back to California.

It's kinda funny, all my coworkers in California had there Medical Marijana Licences, here the have there Concealed Wepons Permit. Funny how our politicians and people see the laws.
PHXGlock.

P.S. I had a glock 30 before and both a 21 and 30 at the same time, I shot the 30 better as it seemed more acurate and more concealable to boot.

I was thinking about the GSSF deal, but the only dealer (according to Website) was in central or northern Cali. Worth it?

The LEO friend purchase sounds interesting. No, it would not be a straw purchase because there will be a completely seperate sale after the initial LEO purchase. He'd have to get 10rd. mags or sell it to you without mags.

The fees would be the FFL, + DROS, and add HSC if you don't have one. Not sure about tax.

*The straw purchase law isn't in place to "outlaw the purchase of a handgun by one individual for the express purpose of selling it to another." Not at all. It is to prevent people from buying firearms for others, who might otherwise not be able to purchase them for themselves (i.e. prohibited class; felon, minor, DV conviction, restraining order, etc.). If LEO purchases, and then choses to sell it, he can do that no problem, because the purchase will go through a FFL, pending DROS (background) and waiting period. It's no different than any other private party sale in CA.

CA Attorney General/DOJ defines a straw purchase as...

where an individual purchases a gun on behalf of a prohibited person.

As long as buyer is not in prohibited class, and the firearm is legal to sale/possess (sans Hi-Caps), then you should be fine.

I've been researching the G23 for quite awhile and the only shop I have found that has it in stock is charging 600 bucks. It's way cheaper online and in other states but every website I've checked is out of stock and back ordered. I called every gun shop within reasonable distance and they all said the same thing, out of stock and backordered. Prices are higher now than they used to be and who knows what's gonna happen in the future, so I just went for it. The shop is 5 minutes from my house and the guy I had been talking to was super helpful and gave me a deal. I support small businesses, so I feel fine about it. Sure I'd rather have spent a hundred or two less but I wanted it and I got it. Well, in 8 days I'll have it...
