Went out Wednesday night and got some decent fish with the Bows! We took out a father and son pair that have never been on an airboat and with very limited bowfishing experience as well! A great time was had by all! I am a visual type person so here a few pictures from the fishing trip.

I'm jealous, looks like you're off to a good start! What did that top buff weigh in at? Never made it out once last year, hopefully that doesn't happen again this year.

Man, I am embarrassed to say we did not have scales with us so none of them got weighed. It was a good one though, I'd say 35+ easy probably closer to 42-45

I know a few guys from Kentucky that do shoot some tournaments. Did they happen to shoot a big tournament in Alabama last year?

That sounds like a good time, I bet the gigging crabs would be a lot of fun!

No problem buddy, I like taking/posting pictures! Here are a few more.

This is a 65lb grass carp I shot recently.

My buddy Oddis and his first fish. Odiss is going to Iraq for a year so you guys say a prayer for him and the rest of our troops over there and around the world. This was the night before he left town. We had a blast! Odiss is also a heck of a country music singer, here is a link to a song of his and his bio. Be watching for him when he comes back, he'll make it big!

One more from a recent night! Took some guys from my partners church out, these guys had a ball and are some kind of fun to have on the boat with us. We shot a few fish too! 104 with those guys missing 5-1 on their shots haha. Could of had a whole lot more but it was more of a fun trip than serious one!

So do you eat these things? Stuff them and hang 'em on a wall? Fertilizer?

chevy01234
05-29-2009, 18:24
I give them to needy families around who do eat them, personally I kill way too many fish for one person to consume so I give them to those who really need them. I also have one alligator gar on my wall, she was 7ft long.

I've always wanted to try bow fishing. What type of setup do you use? What would it cost to set my bow up for fish?

chevy01234

I use an Oneida Osprey, Zebco 808 (for shooting numbers) and AMS slotted retriever for shooting big fish.

You can be set up for a little over a hundred dollars probably.

Check out www.backwaterbowfishing.com for supplies

Thanks for the info. How much life do you get out of an arrow?

Awesome! I have only been a few times so far this year. The carp aren't out around here like they were this time last year.

BTW JCWIU, my buddy bought a setup for 150 bucks on a old fred bear bow, with a ams retriever. I use a jennings buckmaster lite that was given to me, and prefer using a plain ol drum reel, muzzy 200lb line, muzzy fish hook (best rest of all I've tried) and plain ol muzzy arrows with s/slides. Carp or gar points, but I normally sharpen them on a stone at work. Look for old bows at yard sales and flea markets, buy a drum reel with line and a arrow and rest, and your good to go. You can get set up under 100 if you find a cheap bow.

If you don't shoot in rocks and stumps and remember to re-tie your line you'll keep them awhile. If they start splintering, chunk em! I have some arrows that are 3-4 years old.

I have a stupid fiberglass splinter right now from an arrow splitting where the safety slide stop is. Very good advice!

my very first fish was a pretty small gar. Not that size tho haha. Here was my first ever carp:http://i686.photobucket.com/albums/vv230/bamarammin87/0324081501a.jpg
it was in march and still in the 40s outside, I spotted him really low in the water, and just happened to make a lucky snap shot on him. I haven't even gone but a couple times this year, and only saw gar!

BAM,

I am always impressed with these huge carp you come up with man..... I have done some bow fishing, but never shot a thing over 4-5 pounds ! HA.

Then again, "just to find water" in our part of Texas is a challenge.

I will say this. I would Loooooove to have that boat of yours, and blow up and down the Brazos river with it. That would be a blast! How fast will that thing go? We may just have to build us one.... HUMMMMM !

Anyway, again, great Pics, always enjoy them Hoss, keep up the good work/fun ! ;)

Thanks man.
I believe tho you'r confusing the boat and pics with chevy's boat, he has the air boat, and gets all the huge fish. I have never gotten carp over 25 pounds! All my pics are in a plain ol flatbottom or a canoe. Yeah, chevy's pics are awesome. He has a nice setup, and apparently is da man at bowfishing:cool:

Thanks for the kind words...been a crazy last 10 days! I have bowfished 8 out the past 10 nights in 3 different states.

I helped introduce close to 40 kids to bowfishing through a Christian youth camp and in two "Monday's" (when we do the bowfishing segment). We killed 60 fish, by far the highlight of the camp per the campers.

http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/9404/1032052.jpg (http://img146.imageshack.us/i/1032052.jpg/)

I also fished in the Marsh in South Louisiana with a friend but since water conditions were terrible (at best and nicest way to put it) no "hero shots" from that trip just some good memories and alot of laughs!

The next night we took out a film crew and they filmed us shooting fish until the wee hours of the morning. We ended up shooting a good many fish and almost all of them were filmed shots. The show should air early fall. I forgot my camera that night so I will get some pictures up when I get them.

Came back and slept a day then went to a tournament we had in Vicksburg, MS and came in second. It was a numbers tournament and we shot 202 fish in 8 hours (with 2 hours downtime re-wiring my lights).

Me and my buddy went out last night and shot another pile of fish including a couple nice catfish. Water wasn't great but we made the most of it!

I have had the pleasure of shooting with such a wide range of folks the past week, from kids just starting to world champions and everywhere in between. I am blessed by the big guy upstairs to be able to enjoy this great ADDICTION! The youth ministry has been one of the most humbling experiences I have been a part of, something I take for granted every day makes these kid's happier than you can imagine.

Amen... Good post. I like to see folks get those kids out in the field or lake, and in the Church as well. Good job, and keep up the good work with those youth. ;)

With ya all the way on this.....
