Best Buy is clearing their inventory before the new model hits the shelves (they mentioned a matter of weeks, but didn't say what model). I couldn't help it and ordered for myself and my GF. We'll have matching cameras now. :)

Here is the URL:

Oh, free shipping is included.

Aaarrgghhh.... Hate dealing with incompetent systems... Two hours after I ordered (2), I got a notification that both orders were cancelled. Had to call their center in Houston. They have no idea why their system is cancelling orders, and they ordered them for me again. I guess now I will be waiting to see if the system cancels again. :burn:

Ooooh. Too bad I opted for the other koolaid.

Both koolaids are great. I'm a lifetime Canon user except for a few stretches with Olympus, Nikon, Praktica, Pentacon, Start, Zeiss Korelle, and a some view cameras. Okay, perhaps I am not a one-brand man. ;)

Nice deal. I'm hoping they'll drop further. And BestBuy is satan.

And BestBuy is satan.
At $599 per D200 I can celebrate the black mass for them. http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/figuren/a060.gif http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/teufel/d010.gif

They first ran this a couple months ago. Tried to talk a friend into geting one. Then they ran out. I saw on another forum that it was again offered at $649.

Any way, I hope you get them. It's a great camera. I still have mine. While my D300 is better at high ISO noise performance, the D200 is better at low ISO noise performance, if that makes any sense.

Not going to happen.

Oh yes it will. They always do. I have time.

I swear I have never seen an operation dumber than Best Buy. FThorn is right about them. After placing it in person and after being assured that there would be no problem, I just got a new cancellation notice. I called them and was told that a review board will convene to see if I am a reseller, and if I can get my order fulfilled.

AAARRRGGGHHH. After this saga is over, I will NEVER EVER order anything from them again. What a bunch of cretins. They are trying to clear an inventory and then they scrutinize you to see if they can allow you to buy a camera as a gift for someone else. Un&*$%&#believable.

Today in the morning they had a loyal customer in me. Now I will make sure I walk over to the other side of the street when I pass by Best Buy.

It's just not worth the hassle to deal with those idiots.

Going to order one for my wife. That way she has two bodies.

After another 30 minutes on the phone BB assured me that everything was straightened out (yet again), and the order was going to go through fine.

I will give it a few hours to see what happens.

My wife called to place the order and she said everthing went fine. She paid an extra $4.01 to expedite the order and they told her we should have it by Monday. We'll see what happens. She was going to put her old backup SLR for sale this weekend. I told her to wait until she has the D200 in hand. Good find, we paid like $1300 for the D200 body she got 2-3 years ago.

Yes. It will probably drop again. They've done it in the past, up & down, up & down.

I'm watching that price. If it drops below $599. I'm goiing to have to return mine and rebuy it. Unless they just adjust the charges.

Return is 14 days only, then you pay restocking. However, within 14 days they also adjust the price, so I would do the latter. Alas, I just don't see the price dropping below $599 soon. Judging from various forums, they are having a run on D200 at that price.

It's back up to $799.

Thats with the 18-200 soccer mom lens.

Body is still 599.

Anyone that thinks that the body will be sold for less than that..............:whistling:

The word is (for whatever it's worth) that Nikon chose Best Buy to move all of the remaining inventory of D200s. Once Best Buy runs out of them, that will mean it's over, and likely Nikon will then trump with a new model in the Dxx range.

BTW, from the short time I've had it, the body is fabulous. I am beginning to wonder if it is suitable for travel photography or hiking because of its size, but boy, is it solid and intuitive.

I may end up getting a Canon G10 as a companion when I want to go light.

Actually, I think for my purposes, my dream camera would be D40 with a full-frame sensor from D700 and a compact f/2.0 or f/2.8 prime 28mm or 35mm lens (I've gone through a long list of photos I take when I travel, and that is the predominant focal range). You think that kind of camera may ever happen?
