Who says that the US would never use Subic (and Clark) again?

When I was visiting my wife (who was my girlfriend then) in the late '90s in Subic, we went to the dock area for a stroll after eating at Scuba Shack. The Philippine Marines who were guarding the area told us to keep away from the dock. I noticed that there were silhouettes of two huge submarines.

I bet the "cooling off" period for the US bases is coming to an end. I wouldn't be surprised if Clark and Subic would be busy with activity again, noting the fact that Fedex and UPS quietly left the former bases.

Actually, there were two of them there, the USNS Concord, and its sister ship the USNS San Jose (T-AFS-7). These are Combat Stores Ships assigned to the Far East. There was also an odd-looking USN ship between them, looked like a salvage vessel. And a bit of a surprise was a USMC payloader and forklift parked near our hotel, with their operators sitting in the shade.

And the presence of a couple of Mark V boats didn't raise any eyebrows too.

While this plane used external power, I observed Cebu Pacific uses a different system for short stops of their ATR-72s, the "Hotel mode" where the right propeller is stopped but the engine continues running. Rather disconcerting to watch the right propeller suddenly stop dead while the engine still idled.

I know exactly where this unit is as I have examined it closely. I am from Oslob myself and this piece is located in Nueva Caceres (bario of Oslob). I am in the process of acquiring it and hopefully restore it to running condition someday.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

We have an old Southern Cross stationary engine that ran our generator (when VRESCO wasn't yet established in Northern Negros), and rice mill. Very hard to find parts for it and it needs space. The cooling system alone consist of three drums of water.

The steady chug chug chug was part of my childhood memories of the rice mills in my hometown. I recall they used a big tank of water to cool the engine. Nowadays the rice millers use electric motors, and they howl a lot each time the electric rate is kicked up.

I am still working on acquiring it through my aunt in Nueva Caceres. The problem is the land is owned by the local Catholic Parish (priest) and is reluctant to get rid of it for whatever reason. However, they are open to the idea of weighing the thing and me buying it as scrap which is fine with me. Man that thing is huge and must weigh a couple of hundred KG. If it is MIA the next time to pass by look me up and it will be sitting in my garage hopefully turning and burning diesel #2.<?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" /><v:shapetype id=_x0000_t75 stroked="f" coordsize="21600,21600" filled="f" path="m@4@5l@4@11@9@11@9@5xe" o:preferrelative="t" o:spt="75"> <v:stroke joinstyle="miter"></v:stroke><v:formulas><v:f eqn="if lineDrawn pixelLineWidth 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 1 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum 0 0 @1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @2 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @3 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @0 0 1"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @6 1 2"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelWidth"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @8 21600 0"></v:f><v:f eqn="prod @7 21600 pixelHeight"></v:f><v:f eqn="sum @10 21600 0"></v:f></v:formulas><v:path o:connecttype="rect" gradientshapeok="t" o:extrusionok="f"></v:path><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:lock aspectratio="t" v:ext="edit"></o:lock></v:shapetype><v:shape id=_x0000_i1025 style="WIDTH: 11.25pt; HEIGHT: 11.25pt" alt="0" type="#_x0000_t75"><v:imagedata o:href="http://glocktalk.com/forums/images/smilies/sunnies.gif" src="file:///C:\DOCUME~1\TRAVEL~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\msohtml1\01\clip_image001.gif"></v:imagedata></v:shape> I do like working on diesel engines as I do my own wrenching on my truck. Cummins are a sweet engines. I uploaded performance program in the ECM and numerous other mods and now she really screams. Stock engine is rated @ 325 HP and 610 LBS of torque at the crank but with all the mods it dyno @ 605 HP and 1,240 LBS of torque at the rear wheels. Yeah going 70 MPH she can spin the 37" tires at will. Unfortunately I do not tow anything so the most load it ever encounter is when I load up the family to go to church on Sundays.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Fit and finish is typical Mega Machine (and very consistent quality). All my Pmags drop free (only problem with Mega) including the unaltered ones.
Only things I don't like are the logo and the trigger guard, but they are not bad. I guess I'm just used to my no logo Mega receivers and Magpul trigger guards.
