Dear Glockers
I could use a little help here. What I'm looking for is a little info on Fleshettes. First are they legal? Second, if they are legal, where can I find them? And final if I screw this message up, Sorry. (Don't know what half this crap is on this PC or this website!) Thank You Dunkirk PS Like I said I'm all thumbs here.

I have not seen anything that would lead me to believe that flechettes are illegal. They are sold at:

Caveat: I have NOT dealt with these folks. I would be interested to hear about any experience that anybody else may have had with them.

Regards,
Hank

It depends on the state/jurisdiction you live in; some states have specifically prohibited them, but others don't care (it's not like they can kill you "more dead" than any other type of SG ammo). I've seen both factory-loaded shells and "bulk" flechettes offered for sale, so you can load your own. A cheap substitute would be some of those 1/2" finishing nails dropped into the wad. Just as a spelling nit-pick, the way it's spelled is "flechette", from the French word for "little arrow".

I usually hear it "fleshette", but sometimes "fletch-ette".

Flechettes do not work very well. They were all the rage in the 1960s for the new infantry weapons under design because they were deadly out of artillery shells. Well, a 155mm shell delivers THOUSANDS of flechettes, and they are bent by the force of being explosively ejected from the shell. Common theory at the time was that the flechettes "fish-hook" when they hit an organic soft target. They do not. They punch right through doing minimum damage. (The caliber (sans "fins") is like one milimeter.) Okay for arty, not okay for the individual rifleman.....
