I know we have an Ammo Hotline running in the Florida Glockers Club forum, but I have not seen any mention of prices in those posts.

It has been quite a while since I have been able to purchase handgun ammo in my area, so I am a little out of touch as to what is considered the going-rate and what is price-gouging.

Can some of you who have been lucky enough to recently purchase ammo let the rest of us know what the current prices are? I'm sure any caliber in any quantity will be of interest to us, but I am mainly interested in .40 caliber. Please let us know what and how much was in a box (100 rds FMJ, 50 rds FMJHP, 20 rds Gold Dot, etc.).

Lastly, can you let us know where you made the purchase? Something like: Walmart, internet dealer, local gun shop, dealer at gun show, etc. would be great.

Thanks, a lot.

I pick up boxes of .40 S&W at the local Wal-mart for somewhere around $12.50/box 50 rd boxes. 180 Grain FMJ That's for Federal, They also had Boxes of WWB in .40 S&W which was somewhere around $16.50 (+Tax) This was also for a 50 round box. FMJ. When I picked up my 23 a month ago, I did pick up a box of Speer Gold Dots JHP 50 rd box, 165 Grain and that came to around $40.00 after tax (Gun shop prices obviously):crying: Also, I'm in Lake County (Clermont)

The gun shop / Range I go to (Shoot Straight, Apopka) has .40 S&W FMJ for somewhere around 17.00 / box, 50 round boxes, and they will sell it by the case at a 10% discount. IIRC, they have 9mm for somewhere around $13.00 /box of 50 rounds +tax. There is a gun shop down the road from me here in Clermont, I will be going to on Saturday, I will see if I can remember to ask them their prices on ammo in .40 The Wal-Mart near me typically has a good amount of .40 but other calibers it's hit or miss.

Federal has been showing up more frequently at the walmarts near me at $8.97 for a box of 115g 9mm. Also seen alot more winchester white box. Cant remember the price but not much more than the federal. Also went to Shoot straight just last week and they had some boxes of 9mm for $11. Dont know what brand since I didnt buy any (still had the walmart stuff). I cant say the prices are going down too much but the demand is definitely not what is was before. Checked Florida Gun Trader and there's still scalpers trying to get $16 a box for their blazer brass they've been hording all these months. Guess they're trying to cash out before more walmart ammo starts showing up and starts collecting dust on the shelves.

The Walmart on us 19 in Bayonet Point, wich hasn't had any handgun ammo for almost an entire year, currently has:
$10.97 wwb 115 gr 9mm fmj 50 round box.
$12.47 federal champion 180 gr .40 fmj 50 round box.
There is now a six box limit. Employee told me that up until the box limit a couple of guys would come in and buy their entire stock spending thousands of dollars at a time.

I purchased 6 boxes of Federal, 115g 9mm at Walmart this afternoon in Ormond Beach. $8.97 a box of 50. Whenever I stop into Walmart, I always stroll by the ammo counter just to check. They haven't had any in months. I went by today and they had 9 boxes sitting in the cabinet. Their limit is 6 boxes, so I was happy to get that.

I dont know what it is but most of the wal-marts here in Jax have .40 whenever I go and is out of everything else I need.

Last I saw, the blazer brass is $12.47 for .40.

The Walmart by me didn't have any blazer, in fact I asked and the guy said they are carrying Federal now. Any idea how this is compared to blazer? It was the same price.

Federal is the next box I am going to pick up and see how I like them. Probably better than the boxes of 100 rounds of Winchester white boxes.

I did the same thing at one of our Gainesville Walmarts, today. $12&change/box. Got one box and that was all they had in .40 cal (or any other handgun ammo).

Still no .22's except for a few small, but pricey, boxes.

You havent been going to Wal-Mart enough. I've been able to buy plenty of .40, 9mm, .22LR, and 12 gauge slugs/buckshot between Super Wal-Mart as well as the Archer road and 13th street Wal-Marts. I've even seen some .223 and other stuff starting to show up.

WWB .40, 100 round pack - $29
Federal Champion .40, 50 round box - $12.50
WWB 9mm, 100 round pack - $20

The can always go to Picketts, Micanopy shooting sports, Sapps, or M&C army surplus and get ammo...Of course you will be paying more. I think M&C had a box of 20 gold dots (.40) for almost $40! :faint:

I just got back from Wally World in Valrico a few minutes ago. I bought 2 boxes of Federal 180 gr. FMJ per 50 @ $12.47 a box and 3 boxes of Winchester 180 gr. FMJ per 50 for $16.97 all in .40 cal.

I mainly stop by the sanford wal-mart after I get out of work around lunchtime and they usually have 9mm and 40 cal in good amounts. They seem to rotate between the wwb's and Federal 50ct boxes when it comes to 9mm, and usually have federal .40 in stock.

Everybody else's prices still apply; Fed 9mm $8.97, Fed .40 $12.47, and wwb's $19.97 when you can find them.

I like the federal rounds, very little deposits..i swear anything is cleaner than wwb's...plus...Federal is cheaper..

Thanks, RMC.

I have noticed better-stocked shelves at the Walmart on NW 13 St, as well.

I haven't been to the one on Archer Rd. in a few weeks, so I can't say how their shelves look.

Do you buy defensive ammo locally? If so, from whom and what are you buying? B/T/W, I am only looking at .40 cal at the moment. Thanks.

I used to buy it at M&C Army Surplus on 13th but dont anymore. They are charging almost $40 for 20 rounds of +P .40 Gold Dots now...they've almost doubled their price.

I've been tempted to order 100 rounds of Gold Dots from Palmetto State Armory.

I just made a quick trip to the Super Wal-Mart and they had some stuff.

It looks like they have raised their prices about $4 per 100 rounds of .40 S&W.

The lady said they unload all the ammo at night and first thing in the morning is the best time to get it. She said they had 30 boxes of the Federal Champion on the shelves this morning and I bought the last 3 boxes a few mins ago.

Thanks. I saw some .40 hollowpoints at Alachua Farm & Lumber and it was nowhere near that expensive.

I'm planning to check out Pickett's sale next weekend. You going? It looks like they bought the range in Micanopy, too.

09-06-2009, 06:58
From my understanding Jeff was forced out and Picketts bought the range and reopened it.

Thats too bad because I really liked Jeff...I bought my last 4 guns from him and I sent more than a few people out his way for transfers or buying guns. I came to the conclusion years ago that Picketts wouldn't get any of my $. I had too many times where they treated me like crap so I swore I'd never go back.

Guess I need to find a new person to do transfers for me.

Well...i'm glad I stocked up...I don't know what the issue is, but my two local wal-marts have been out of 9mm for almost 3 weeks. I've called practically every other day to them, and I've started saying "Are you guys still out of 9mm?" instead of "Do you guys have any 9mm today?"

FLAHOTROD

RMC: I have had few dealings with Pickett's, but I know what you mean. It is not always a friendly atmosphere.

I never had the pleasure of dealing with Jeff. I am sorry to hear he went out of business. Let me know if you find a good FFL dealer. It is always nice to know of one when you need one.

It looks like I won't be going to Pickett's sale next weekend, after all. Other plans have come up for that weekend.

I'm in the Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Lehigh area and I've NEVER seen Walmart sell JHP's like some posters have.....

I WISH they did sell them, because a few gun shops in the area are charging:

Speer Gold Dot 180 gr JHP 50 round box 60.00 for .40 and 55.00 for 9mm

Federal Hydra-Shok 20 rnd box 49.99 for .40's and 39.99 for 9mm's.

I'd buy on line, but everyone screws you with shipping...most charging $8.00-$10.00 PER BOX FOR SHIPPING

I'm going to have to scope out the gun show here this weekend because I'm getting low on SD stuff, and HOPE that they are somewhat cheaper.

If prices keep going up, I'm going to just be slinging ball ammo.:dunno:
