Never been dove hunting.

Those dumb little high performance birds have a way of making a man humble, real quick.

Illegal in Michigan. A migratory bird, go figure. We feed em, so you guys can shoot em. Have fun fellas.

We used to find farmers who had old barns and a lot of pigeons flying around. Most of them are happy to have you shoot all the pigeons you can get.

As for dove hunting, I don't think I'm going to make it this year. Not seeing many around anyway, but I'm gonna miss the bacon wrapped jalepeno breasts. Have fun!

I will be traveling to Oklahoma City to visit the grandchildren and hope to squeeze in a hunt with my grandson while there.
I've found a couple of pay hunts on the internet for $75 - $100. Sure hope they have some birds.

I will miss not being in Nebraska yet again and not making dove season. I have some fond memories of being in the field with friends and my father shooting at those aerobatic birds. I will try to get out if work allows in Virginia but not sure where to go. A co worker of mine is talking about going so hopefully it will work out. Good luck guys. Esox357.

So how many boxes of shells were used to take those 15?

I have always heard the rule of thumb is 6 shots for every bird, I don't doubt that either!

that's actually pretty bad. It should be more like 2 shots per bird

I stated in my picture that it took 18 shots for 15 birds. I only took high percentage shots that I know I can make most of the time. I only took one box of shells with me that day as well so you really pick your shots. I think if you are shooting 6-1 you might not have the right choke in for the shots you are taking. I personally am pretty disappointed if it takes me more than a box of shells to get a limit.

I have a naive question. All of the hunting I've done has been for edible game. Do you actually eat doves, or is it all about the shooting of them?

I thought you were kidding on your first post when you said "I never been dove hunting."

Man, as good a hunter as you are. Come to Texas, any time. On the house. You can hunt all the doves out here on the ranch you want. We do have plenty. Seriously. Bring your gun and your son, and come on. We will put you on a spot, and pick ya up later, and you can shoot till your hearts content. Every one needs to have hunted, and ATE doves. Shoot, we'll even cook 'em for ya, and maybe a rattler for a side dish. ;) Say the word.

Hey bud, I appreciate it. I am not one to brag, I have just been shooting since I was about 9 at Doves and was taught early on not to shoot just to shoot and waste shells. I always carry extra shells in the truck and have days where I will get frustrated and have to get them but majority of the time it is 1 box a hunt, usually less! I don't like wasting money :crying:

No, hey I hear ya . I had to start as a kid shooting doves (and all other shotgun game), with a .410 single shot.........

Did my kids the same way. Good way to learn IMO.

Good Hunting
