Sorry maadi.... any how I have a Maadi Ak w/ a Drugunov stock. I want something that makes it more "mobile" and not so large. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking your gun has no US parts in it now.
To add a "standard stock" and pistol grip, you need to
add 5 US parts if barrel isn't threaded,6 if it is.
Check out:
http://www.k-var.com/shop/

They have a great sale this weekend.
Pick up a stock set($59)and a FCG($20) and your
ready to roll.

Why did you delete the picture(s)? Okay, so your Maadi may be illegal. So what? Let's see what you have and offer suggestions to rectify the situation.

You can have a Maadi that looks like the original and still be compliant, like mine...

What makes my Maadi different or illegal than others? I really don't know too much about the rifle...It was given to me by my father a few years ago.
It has the black synthetic drugunov stock on it now, I should post a picture, maybe it would help.

CarlosC, is there anything with a collapsible stock for it? Not made of wood? Thanks

This is exactly what it looks like now, I'd just like something more "compact" if possible.

I was going off CnRnut's comment about your Maadi not having any US parts in it, although that is not really a requirement, since it really depends on when your Maadi was imported. Maadis imported by Steyr of Secaucus, NJ, are preban, and very valuable. Steyr Maadis don't need any compliance parts in them.

So, let's suppose you Maadi is post-ban. If so, then changing the original thumbhole stock for the Fiberforce stock makes no difference and you don't have to add any US parts. In that configuration, it is not banned and still considered a sporting rifle as long as there are no other modifications that would violate Chapter 27 CFR 478.11. If you think about it, the guns were imported with thumbhole stocks to begin with.

If you want to go with something collapsible, then it looks like you'll have to add a pistol grip and that's when you'll have to start keeping track of your parts count.

So, what type of compacting stock are you looking for? Maadis were made with side folding stocks identical to the East German crutch stock, so you can go original, but they're kind of pricey. You can go a little cheaper and get a Romy side folder, which is kind of the same thing as far as function. You could get an add-on Bulgarian triangle side folder or even install an AR-15 stock if you want. There are even more options out there. It just depends on what you want for function, looks and of course, how much you have to spend.

Great information Carlos, I appreciate it.
I'm now curious to see if it the particular Maadi you're referring to...
I do know the original stock had a thumb hole. I will research some of the things you posted for me. Thanks again!

If it had a thumbhole, then it's likely a post-ban, but just check the importer stamp on the side of the receiver to be sure. Steyrs, as I mentioned are preban. Those imported by ACC/Intrac, PARS International, and Century are post-ban. The last batch by Century are pure garbage with a mixture of parts, most notably Egyptian receivers with Chinese AK-47 barrels and other parts.
