Hello. Four years ago I wound up with a NIB Ruger SP101 with the 3 1/16" barrel. Almost exclusively an S&W revolver shooter, I was not sure if I'd keep the thing or not, but do admit that there was sort of an "instant attraction" to the little .357 after handling it.

I shot it during a few range trips and then wound up doing an initial evaluation of the gun. Here's the link should anyone want it read it:

http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/Ruger%20SP101%20Report.htm

I also used it as one of the "test guns" when trying out Corbon's then-new .357 Magnum 125-gr. DPX ammunition:

http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/Corbon%20357%20Magnum%20125%20gr%20DPX%20Ammo.htm

Since those reports, I've continued to shoot the little thing off and on, but not with great amounts of ammunition each range session, but over time, my somewhat skimpy notes indicate that it has put at least another thousand rounds of 357 ammunition downrange.

If interested, here's report on the same SP101 and a few minor alterations I've had done to it:

Best.

Great review. Ruger revolvers are built like tanks.

Fantastic review. Thank you VERY much for sharing your experience. The SP101 is on my "need to get" list. I'm leaning toward the shorter barrel... Undecided as of yet.

Love the SP101. It's built like a friggin' bank vault. Got one last year, but traded it for something that was a little more rare at the time knowing I'd get another SP101 at some point. Long story.

Anyway, happily I got some gift certificates for Christmas that were good at my local gunshop. Used those towards another SP101, which I got just about 2 weeks ago. They're all built great, this one seems slightly better than the previous one I owned.

It's my constant companion. It makes a great carry gun or a BUG. You just can't go wrong w/ a SP101. Quite possibly the best all around snubby revolver ever made.

My wife shoots a S&W 38 but I don't like it, too light. I have often thought of a SP101 (I think it is stainless) for the extra weight. I was thinking it would be easier to shoot for fun in .357. I have the .357 barrel for my G27 and I don't see any difference from the .40.
Still thinking.

Yeah, I carry mine more than I carry just about anything else. Love it.

They're really great little guns. .357 Magnum picks up where .357 SIG leaves off, as far as how much oomph you can get out of the round. The Ruger's as toughly-built a gun as you'll find.

Very nice Web site, packed with loads of insights and information, Stephen. Thanks for the effort. I read and enjoyed many of the articles.

I did note the photos in the My Choice in "Plastic Pistols" offering were not showing up. Don't know if you are aware of that issue.

Hello, mickys and thank you for the compliments. I check on the article you mentioned and the pictures were visible. (Perhaps there was a problem with the hosting company for a while? I know that some of their equipment apparently wasn't working over the past day or two due to very skewed numbers of "unique visitors" to the site.

Best.

Very nice indeed. I love mine, and it is very accurate. We had shot some pretty good distances with this one, and it is a very good shooter. I liked your write ups, and you did a fine job on the gun make over as well...

Good post.
