What neighborhood are you in?
Wow... we're neighbors. I live in the Sunset and work in the Mission.
Someone asked how Cali got so screwed up when it comes to gun laws.
Here's my take on it;
The gun control debacle of CA is the result of very VOCAL anti-gunners combined with complacent shooting enthusiasts.
In the late 1980-s when the Assault Weapon ban was brewing, I couldn't believe how many of my shooting buddies were very quick to side against me. "I don't own an AK." "What you want an UZI for?" "None of my guns are plastic."
This attitude that their choices were somehow better than mine, or that mine weren't worthy of defending made it very easy for the antis in Sacramento to divide us (the shooting public). Then they passed a hi-cap magazine ban. Then they banned the .50 Cal. Now they are going to limit sales on ammunition.
It'll continue this way until enough of us get together to resist them. Any of you not on Calguns.net... come over and see what's brewing.

Tonelar, there are a bunch of us here in San Diego that are trying to get AB 962 repealed--- (Flogging a dead horse) but we are trying...Good for Calguns, keep up the good work
I was in ParkMerced and then the Exclesior.
I'm Living In Exile with the Sons of Anarchy (south of Lodi).
I worked at a GunShop in '94 and remember folks coming in to buy magazines whenever they saved enough dispose-able income to do so because the prices were going-up with every new shipment. I wish I had saved for the RCBS Rockchucker Kit, M1A, and H-Bar AR while I could have gotten the employee discount!

So Cal, Torrance 90505 here
Lots of guys from Fresno, eh? I wish PRK Arms was farther north for me. They have a pretty cool inventory actually.
Fresno's still a drive from Charming or Lodi, right, Jeager? I was one of those guys, buying hi-caps for firearms I didn't even own yet. It was getting really expensive as 99 approached, too.
SF since 1997. Noe Valley, a few blocks from High Bridge- the last gun store in SF... Kevin
Sad to say, although Highbridge fought the good fight to remain in SF, they're throwing in the towel. Highbridge Arms will be shutting their doors and rumor has it, they'll be moving to SSF or San Bruno. Too much nonsense with the city and county for them to remain here, I guess.
So, chalk one up for the antis down at city hall... %$#@ers!
Hate to admit I did my time in FresNo! '67-72 Hoover High, and '89-92 w/ a crazy woman whose bro had one of the last home-addressed FFLs. (almost time to go back)
I recall going to the CowPalace for a gunshow, but all I could afford was the entrance fee. Got a days' long entertainment and cleansed my mind of all that crap being at SF State. Last I heard there aren't any more shows at the Livestock Pavillion.

Nevada County, Nevada City, actually. Cabela's is only 75 miles away in Verdi, NV. When the ammo ban (not an outright ban) happens it is a short drive away.
If there is any sort of lesson we can get from what has happened to other states, just remember that at one time, not very long ago, CA was a great place to live for a gun enthusiast. So, if anyone from a "red", gun friendly state is reading this, don't take your freedoms for granted. Hitler was elected in a democratic country!

Just got my "Welcome to Glock Talk" email this morning. I live in the Maxwell Park neighborhood of Oakland, the third most dangerous city in the USA. Firearm ownership is, IMO, required to sleep soundly.
I must confess that I only own one handgun and it's a, it's a ,,, it's a
wheelgun. But it's a good one, a Colt Python with a 4" barrel, nickel plated and Hogue grips. I bought it new for $300 when my brother was closing down his coin/gun shop in Redding back in 1982. It has fired only 28 rounds. But that is about to change.
Aside from learning to shoot the Python I also intend to rent a variety of semi-auto pistols and buy a couple, one for me and one for my wife. A friend of mine, who is a retired police captain, has recommended a .40 caliber for me but I'm thinking a 9mm might be better for my wife. We'll see.

Good to see all you Fresno/Central Valley Glockers on here! As Saldana mentioned above, Fresno is a "Shall Carry" city for me any time I have to venture up there. Of course I carry 24/7 even down here in the Po' Dunk. Gang crime and idiots in general are on the rise and you nevr know where they're going to pop up next.
Also VERY encouraging to see you Bay Area and SoCal shooters! I've lived both places and wouldn't be cought dead (?!) without a Glock in those areas. You guys keep the faith, pack 'em when you got 'em and get your neighbors and co-workers interested in owning/carrying too! Be Safe!
P.S. Nortenos, Surenos, BullDogs... they all absorb .45 slugs the same.

TreacherousT, Calguns is a good place "...to meet shooters", as well become aquainted with the laws regarding gun ownership in CA; also actvism against some of the "laws". Give it a try.

Dunno if it's allowed on GTalk but here's a Calguns link for any that wanna join up. If my local CLEO allowed it, I'd be all over CCW'ing my 228 or G26.

Someone above mentioned getting a .40 or 9 for him and the wife... I wanted to advise that you can get a .40 or .357 Glock and with a barrel and mag swap be using 9mm for your range sessions. However, I would not use a weapon in a defensive situation in a caliber other than what it was built around.

Sacramento County Glock owner myself, and I definitely go +1 on Sac Valley. Effective Jan 1, their membership cost goes to $150/year with a reduction the next year if you volunteer. I wasn't able to do my volunteer time this year, but I definitely will next year. They've got some good stuff coming up soon, so keep an eye on their website...
In the meantime, that's a great place to meet up for a nice day at the range. You pretty much can NOT overcrowd the place. I've never seen it so busy that you couldn't get a lane.
Calguns and Calccw both have Sacramento area forums that are good for planning meet ups. Give 'em a shout and I'm sure someone would be more than happy to meet up with you for a fun day.
