View Full Version : options for netbook storage
I want to upgrade the old 4 gig ssd in my asus 900 to either a sdhc card or a new ssd. All I want is a 16 gb sdhc card or drive. The drive would be faster but once I ditch this it won't be much goood...just don't know which to get.
I will be installig ubuntu on this card also
I would go with the SSD, as they are made to operate in place of standard platter-based hard drives. SD cards are not really designed for sustained read/write operations. That doesn't mean you couldn't use one and be just fine, just that they're not designed for that and you could run into issues in the future.
Ya I should go with the ssd but I'm being cheap plus I don't plan on having this forever....
I'm just basically using it to store a couple movies on and web browsing
newegg.com the higher the class, the faster the sdhc....look for class 6.
i bought my 8 gig sdhc class 6 for $14.00 shipped last x-mas...
also, class 6 32 gig
$76.00 free shipping
Mavsx that first link didn't work on my blackberry, ill check it when I get home.
I found a 16 gig transcend for 20 bucks free shipping..or was it a 8 gig
Personally, I'd go with an SD all the way. I don't even know if the 900's SSD can be replaced without soldering, but I'd still go with the SD in any case -- you can switch your same OS beween computers simply by swapping out the card.
