If your familiar with the National Geographic series "Lockdown", you've probably already seen this. If not, you have to see this.

It's a show filmed in Alaska about Native Americans serving time in prison.

I'm ****ing shocked at how these people live. You want to talk about 3rd world conditions, this is it.

These people can't control themselves. They said on the show that 98% of the crimes committed in Alaska are alcohol related. It's borderline disgusting how these people chose to live. They have entire families in the same jail.

I thought we had a serious native problem in Canada. Canadian natives are practically saints compared to these people.

It is sad, but I'll bet 90% of crimes anywhere involve alcohol.

In as much as we are dealing with the same ethnicity and the same substance abuse, why in your estimation, are the native peoples of Alaska so much further over the brink than their kin in Canada? Are you basing your opinion on what you saw on a television show? I hope not. I live a long way from either place. However, we have a sizable Indian population here as well. And yes, the same problem persists. It is not geographical and it is not political.

I am of course comparing the worst type of Indian in Alaska to those we have here who are just street beggars / drunks / druggies.

Everyday here I see someone of this race either working as a prostitute or stumbling around pissed.

Our government hands these people money hand over fist, and they still have nothing. That being said, there are allot of White people around who are no better.

The bottom line is that it really is a social phenom and not racial. We can see representatives of all ethnicities caught in this mess. We have a little column here in our local newspaper (weekly) that details the arrests made by the police and sherrif's dpts. for the week. A very high percentaage of them are alcohol related. These are white people, hispanics and indians for the most part because we have very few blacks or asians here, but I have no doubt that they would be well represented too if they made up much of our population. I have often thought that most social problems could be avoided with proper parenting and better schools........but realisticly there are just so damn many people.

Absolutely.

I will say this, however. The native group of people do seem to be having a harder time "adjusting" to life in the 20th and 21st centuries.
