First I'd like to say that silencers and machine guns are restricted items for most people in the US, simply due to criminal records, Location, money required to afford them, ect.
However I'm seeing a general fear amongst posters that is saddening to say the least. We all know when someone is clearly looking to break federal law and when someone is talking about enhancing their views and forming a clearer understanding on whatever the subject may be. Learning is no more a crime than distribution of knowledge of ANY KIND.
I'm not expecting anyone here to agree with this point of view I have. For all you know I can be a Federal Agent myself. But even then it would'nt be a crime, or even an infraction for myself to describe, let's say... how to locate and drill the original hole in any AR-15 for installation and possible conversion of a firearm. It's well known that any class II manufacturer can actually do the conversion legally. So whats to say that the person requesting the knowledge of the Auto sears location(ect) isnt having it done legally, or more realistically, isnt doing it at all and is simply bettering themselves by talking to others with the same interest and for some knowledge.

Lighten up people.

I personally don't have any problem with discussing 'how to' type stuff with anyone. I don't care much why they would want to know this sort of information as long as they're not outright telling me that they want to make an illegal conversion. When I made my first NFA title II firearm the people I asked how to do it was NFA Firearms Technology Branch in Wash. D.C.. The agent I spoke to told me he could tell me anything I wanted to know on how to make any conversion I wanted. He told me they figured if you were calling them to ask this sort of question, you weren't likely to be making an illegal weapon. I feel the same way, if a person is asking this sort of thing in such an open and public fashion, then they probably want to know how to do it legally and that's all. If someone is going to do it illegally, there aint too much anyone can do to stop them. Karl.:)

 Well put. Aside from myself not being a title II liscenced manufacturer, there is no reason for anyone (Title II's included) to feel as if they are aiding in the commission of a federal offense.
Though many seem to think that that charge could be their fate if they type about any conversions or fully auto operational specifics, but they cant. Not unless you were selling the posting party black market DIAS's.
In such a case, I wouldnt be giving up any knowledge on anything either.;c
