My first ballistics test in .40 S&W, and just from browsing the posts on GT, the PDX1 appeared to be a good place to start. The video runs just over 5 minutes, and includes footage of triple-taps to give you an idea of recoil using a Glock 22.

I bought a couple of boxes several weeks ago. Seems to be good stuff. However as always please inspect your ammo before loading your mags. I found one round in the first box I bought where the case was split. Thanks for all the work testing the ammo and thanks for posting the video.

Your method if measuring final expanded bullet diameter is incorrect.

Thanks. Using that method, the actual diameter is .766 (.7188 + .8125/2). I'll make an annotation on the video with the correction.

Nice video... what velocity did you get from that load? 1300 fps??? Isn't it spec'd to 990fps?

1032 fps. Winchester has noted 1025, which I just confirmed on the packaging.

Call Winchester and they should correct the issue. They may even send you a few free boxes!

Great Video! Finally some 40SW action!

My only complaint is that you are using a G22, you should see if you could get your hands on the G23. Seeing as how everyone CCWs a G23 and only LEO on duty use the G22 and the G23 is a more fair comparison when looking at all the G19 testing you did.

Anyhow, great job and hope to see more rounds tested.

TWS 26 -

I just put a few rounds of : .40 180gr HST, 165gr Ranger T-series, and 165gr. Gold Dot in the mail to you. I thought you would enjoy testing them and everyone else would enjoy seeing your videos.

I will probably acquire a G23 as well. To get .40 tests online sooner than later, I may have to use the G22 because I'm holding on to it for a few more weeks if possible. G23 purchase would be early 2010. But I do see the logic of your point.

Thanks for the video. Well made and well narrated, too. By the way, I believe that the reason that the petals are not symmetric is because the bullet actually turned sideways while moving through the medium, leading to the petals on the side of travel getting pushed back onto the shank while the trailing petals tend to peel outward. This also tends to throw off measurements of expanded size, as well, since the size of the bullet moving through the medium is really the size of the bullet turned on its side. I can't think of any other logical reason to explain the difference in the petal shape.

Another great video:wavey: Impressive ammo too. If I wasn't stocked on t series I would get some of this. I saw it at my local wal mart the other day.

I would love to see the PDX1 shot from a G26. HSTs too. Comparing to a G19 would be informative as well.

If I had someplace to set up and shoot tests like this I would go crazy. There is one outdoor range not too far away. I'll have to check with them to see it they'd allow it. Bigger problem will be getting hands on all the various ammo. Maybe if I put a call out some good samaritans will donate a few rounds.

Hmmmm.....

Thank you for your effort in conducting this test of the PDX1. I appreciate the information provided. I would like to ask, what was the retained weight of the fired bullet? Sincerely. Brucev.
