Everyone post your pictures of the deer you bagged in 2009! Here in Kentucky modern gun season opened this past Saturday, Nov 14. I shot this guy opening morning, 7:55am from about 150 yards in the deep woods. I took him with a Remington 7400 243 win. He stepped into a creek bed giving me a shooting lane from that distance, so I aimed and shot in probably the fasted attempt ever by myself. I got lucky and hit him in the spine, dropping him on the spot. No tracking involved.

I'm super excited as this is my first "trophy" buck. Some may not consider him a big buck, but I've been hunting for about 7 seasons and only taken 2 small bucks. The owner of the land, where I always hunt, told me that this is the biggest buck thats been taken out there in 20+ years (bigger than the 4 he has on his wall), and he is an avid deer hunter. Of course he has taken bigger from other places.

In the woods before dragging him out with my camera phone:

Haha, I bow hunted for 2 season, but only got a chance to put an arrow in the dirt once :)

I mostly use bow season as a chance to sit in the woods and test my stands for gun season. I can usually decide where I want to sit opening morning this way.

Here's mine for 2009

Yeah I saw your buck in the other thread, that is a very nice buck man! Your buck has a very symetrical rack. He will look nice on your wall :)

I've posted these 2 before,

But here are mine so far for 2008:

Both with a cross bow on a suburban property. They are small bucks, but it's a kill them all sort of thing.

Hmm I dont think many people check this forum being it is at the bottom of the list. I should have posted in the Lounge I guess :).

Looks like you are slaying yourself some deer there vafish. What are the limits for you all? We can get 1 buck and 2 does with the optional 3rd doe tag.

I don't think I will take another one this year, I will be giving some meat away as it is. (limited freezer space).

Kentucky does have a nice program where you can donate your deer to the needy, and they will pay to have it processed.

Basic big game tag is 6 deer 3 with antlers 3 without. But there are parts of the state where you cannot use all of them.

In the counties I hunt we have too many deer and we can buy a bonus tag that allows us to shoot 6 more antler-less deer for $18. You can buy as many bonus tags as you want. We also can get damage control permits and tags on private land.

so I can shoot all the doe I want and 3 bucks.

My roommate and I shot four deer between us in Kentucky on Saturday morning. He shot a full grown doe and a button buck. I shot a 2-3 year old doe and also a huge doe that was 225lbs after field dressing.

I haven't had the opportunity to hunt much this year due to project. It was particularly sad during bow season.

Here is my first 2009 buck.

Nothing special about the deer but the morning and set-up were too perfect for him to walk (with a low jerky reserve at my place).

I understand. I couldnt even see the horns on my deer because he was too far away and blending with the brush and trees. I just saw that he had a huge body and when he stepped into a shooting lane I reacted. It wasnt until i walked up on him that I saw that he had a nice rack on him.

Thats a nice buck by the way.

Nice, I noticed the nice rifle in the picture . I finally had a strike of luck, like I said I've never really killed a deer worth talking about before. As you can imagine I'm still super excited. It's gonna be a loooonnnngg wait for the mount.

Still had a great time, though.

What's worse is that a buddy has some land near Ellsinore, MO (which has really good deer numbers... like 100x the numbers of where I just hunted) and I was gonna go out there tonight but the wife has a Dr appt that I HAVE to attend and it WAS today but the doc rescheduled for tomorrow, which means my season is over.

I feel for you guys in MO where the season is so short.

You should come hunt down south - it's a looong season down here but the deer are smaller.

It's not even that the season is short but I had vacation from work planned for a certain time only and, due to issues, that time is unusable. Rats. Plus, I don't think anyone is NORTHERN Missouri is complaining about ANYTHING .... GIANT deer up there.... hehe....

Thanks! In the area I hunt we are allowed 3 bucks and 3 doe with your regular license. However, you can purchase "bonus" tags that allow you to take more doe.....you can buy as many of these as you wish.

The down side to being allowed multiple bucks is we do not have the quality bucks that you have in KY.

Definitely not on public land or a lot of private land where folks shoot anything with horns on it's head.

But I've hunted some private land where the land owners and nearby landowners practice QDM and only take bucks that are 8 points or larger and they get some very nice bucks on their property.

In the past I've seen some nice bucks in the national forest too, but you have to get well off the beaten path for them.

This is a picture of a friend from work and her 12pt 207# buck. Check out the neck on this bad boy. Lot's of people claim their buck weighs over 200#. But, as you can see, it takes a big dog to weigh a ton.

Hope the picture posts - it's in PDF format. She scanned it and sent it to me from work.

Edited: Sorry, the picture didn't load.

I want to see it! Go to www.imageshack.us (http://www.imageshack.us) and upload the photo.

Then use the little insert image icon when you post. All you have to do is insert the Direct Link from imageshack (it will be in a yellow box after uploading). Takes 1 minute :)

Second pic is of my Nebraska deer. I don't have a scale to get a good weight, but he had to be around 200 lbs just based on my experience of lifting him myself to get him hung up in the garage. For reference, I am 6'1" and about 250lbs. That's the nicest one I've ever gotten but I've only been deer hunting for 3 years now.
