Can some of you please tell me how to identify an AK 47 magazine from an AK 74 magazine?
The one that I have is blued metal, curved and the estimated capacity is 40 rounds.

I was told that both rounds fit perfectly in the magazine because the shell casing has the same length and diameter except for the down sized neck on the 5.45X39 round.

That I have been told too, but they do exist in metal for the AK 74, well guess I will have to find someone with an AK and then see if it will fit.
Thanks for your replies.
Andy.

Well I now know that this isn’t true the 5.45X39 has a slightly smaller case diameter than the 7.62X39 and the overall cartridge length is a bit longer than the 7.62X39.
