They are cool, but I think the price is acceptable, for the work provided and the likely number they sell each year.

Not really practical, but still uber coooool, I would love to have something like that, but maybe with a 3 shot magazine instead, and a birds head rear grip.

The price is not really stupid.

$200 of that price is the tax the manufacturer pays to make the AOW.

It is then only $5 to transfer it.

So they are really selling you a cut down Mossberg 500 for $450-$500. Consider they had to pay $200 for the gun to begin with, then cut it down.

They aren't making a ton of money on them after you consider they have to pay to keep the lights on, annual licensing fees, insurance, ect....

And I doubt they make more than a few thousand of them a year. The owner is not getting rich making the Serbu Shorty. I would be real surprised if the owner has more than $50,000 profit a year from the Serbu Shorty guns.

If big money was really there Mossberg and Remington would be selling them too.

That price is retarded! You can add 100 or two and buy a black rifle .223

I'd love to have one for times when I am sitting on surveillance in my vehicle.

I don't think the price is that bad. I'd even pay the extra to upgrade from the Maverick to the 500.

I handled one at the SHOT show this year... Very cool. Fun to have I guess... Practical for only a few situations. However, I am not saying one should have a 'practical' reason for buying a gun. Any reason will do!

Tisk tisk, come on man. I know youre better than that.:wavey: THAT price is MSRP. The link in my signature, now that guy has the best price shipped. Most dealers are charging MORE than MSRP right now anyway.

I have a Safety Harbor KEG-12, which is the same thing. They are people who left Serbu and started their own company. Mine is an 870 version. They are a blast to shoot. You can just now find ONE company who makes a leg holster for it, to the tune of almost $200. I am going to order one, though. I got a REALLY good deal on mine because I was working part time at the dealer who I bought it from. I am not too sure about their practicality of them, but the is definitely a cool factor with them.

I saw Anthony Bourdain shooting one of those at Ted Nugent's house on TV. Way cool but there is no way that I could rationalize buying one.

Low volume manufacturers pay $500.00 per year, high volume manufacturers pay $1,000.00 per year.

Negative Ghostrider.

Low volume manufacturers pay $500.00 per year, high volume manufacturers pay $1,000.00 per year.

I thought that was for the manufactures license and they still had to collect a $200 per tax on each one they manufactured.

Nope. The license allows them to manufacture the AOW's tax free. Then the $5.00 tax must be paid before they are transferred to the purchaser.

Now if you as an individual desire to manufacture an AOW, it will cost you $200.00, but all transfers of that AOW from then on will be $5.00.

I was told you can add another $300 for the ATF. You won't get one until ATF clears you?

Not even close, the tax to the ATF on the discussed gun is $5

You got the no gun till ATF clears you part correct.

They look cool but are way too loud plus their use is very very limited and in feet, not yards. If youre in one of the free states that can legally get one,get it and see.A half hour shooting one to see if I wanted one was enough for me.

Dont want one.:tongueout:

He'll for a $5 tax stamp I had to get it. I bought a rem870 version and I'm still waiting for the ATF to do their part. If you change the hard plastic grip to a houge tamer it will greatly reduce felt recoil, that and if you know how to shoot it correctly and don't use 3" shells, one can shoot it all day.

NFA registration is protected as close as personal tax information. If you circumvent the sheriff there is no way he will know unless you tell him.

If you do the transfer through a trust, or corporation then no CLEO is needed. If you get the signoff at one of your temporary residences in another area unless the CLEOs chat he will not know.

As for practical, my hallway in my house measures 18 feet. Softball pattern at that distance, much better than my fullsize 870. I used it bear hunting, camping, and for doves(got 2). Cost my 550 OTD.
Can carry concealed if I want to. Very intimidating.
Can hit man size silhouette with slugs out to 40 yards no problem.
You know you want it.......

Was going to get a Serbu but found a 870 Police factory AOW with 14" barrel and couldn't say no.

This gun is seriously the most fun that I have ever had with any of my guns.

All you need to do is obtain a trust. That way you do not need to go to the County law enforcement officer and wait for his approval.
