Anybody shoot the Winchester USA brand 230gr JHP?

I have a new Glock 37 and was looking for some bargain ammo, my local shop has this priced at $32.00 a box (same as the WWB 230 FMJ)

Just curious as to accuracy and reliability.

Thanks!

I'm sure it is as accurate as 230-gr FMJ, and just as reliable, but I only buy premium ammo for personal defense, either Federal, Winchester or Cor-Bon.

WWB 230 JHP works just like WWB 230 FMJ in my G38 - EXCELLENT! In fact, I have yet to find any load by any manufacturer - 185, 200, or 230; FMJ or JHP - that doesn't function perfectly or have excellent accuracy in my 38. But, like DannyR said, there are better choices for SD than WWB and they should be investigated and invested in for serious social encounters. Some things just should not be bargain shopped...

That being said, if it's between carrying WWB 230 JHP and leaving your GAP at home, only you can make that decision. Remember, more lives have been taken with 230 hardball than all 45 ACP hollow-point designs combined. I'm not recommending hardball for SD, but it beats a pointy stick - or pretty much any sub-caliber.

Why is that significant? Have you checked out the ballistics for WWB 230 JHP & FMJ for GAP and those for WWB 230 JHP & FMJ for ACP from Winchester's web site? They're IDENTICAL! Cool huh?

Winchester "white box" 230 gr. JHP
Glock 38: 786 F.P.S.
Glock 39: 768 F.P.S.

Winchester Ranger T 230 Gr. JHP
Glock 38: 788 F.P.S.
Glock 39: 752 F.P.S.

White box does basically match "premium" load for velocity.

Velocity is nice, but bullet design is paramount!

Agree: the Ranger T is a FAR superior bullet design to the rather closd nose cavity and bonding techniques of the WWB JHP. They would hit with basically the same energy, but the Ranger will do more tissue damage after impact.

If terminal energy were the only factor, you could say that 230 hardball would be as effective a 230 Gold Dot or Hydrashock loaded to the same velocity - I think we see the failings in that reasoning.
