Accurate at 25 yards
Reliable
45 acp
carry or Target shooting..
I have or had a bunch of 1911's and am racking my brain thinking of what I might want to get...
Thanks for any input !!!!! I bet Baers come up a few times in this list
I had 2 SRP's with the 1 1/2" ...MH 1 1/2"... P2 1 1/2" and a UM 1 1/2" .. I know all about Baers.. but I spent after upgrades much more than $1500 - $2000..

Probably a Baer PII with the 1.5" option, though I think that may put it over $2K.

Got one, and love it. Mine cost around $1800, but that was a few years ago and they have gone up a bit.

The Thunder Ranch or a non-1.5" PII should still be under $2000 and I don't think you lose much (if anything).

New in the box for less than two grand? Good luck.

New in the box for less than two grand? Good luck.

I had a quote from a excellent online dealer for a SF right at $2000 shipped ...so it's possible.

I'm not sure how much the Custom Carry from SA's Custom Shop is but that would be an excellent choice. It should be close to the $2000 limit.

No, it can be done. COntact George at Gunslingers - He handles orders for tons of people on the 1911 forums for Springers, Browns, Nighthawks and others. I ordered my Custom Springfield thru him.

The downside is he does not take credit cards. But, he does give discounts under MSRP. You can get a Brown for $2k or a little less new.

The Springfeild Armory Custom Carry, built by the custom shop. Roughly 1780 for the gun built by te custom shop (long wait though).

Flip a coin.

$2000 will buy (or build) a great gun, doesn't matter whose name is on it.

The Baer Premier II has adjustable sights. I bought a PII used off a friend and had Novacks put on it.

Save your money and get a Kimber. I've owned several high ends, Wilson, Brown, Nighthawk and each one gave me issues of one kind or another. Kimbers may have some issues from time to time too; but you pay half and get the same performance. The gun is only as good as the shooter anyhow.

+1 for Kimber...shoots just as good, the rest of the money($1000)could be spent on ammo.

Per your criteria....Baer PII, just the regular model not his 1.5 inch model. ( Unless you are shooting for money) Les does not recommend his 1.5 for duty guns or ccw. I really know about Baers.

I have shot 2 different Valors. They were both dead nutz reliable and very accurate.( Offhand and Ransom rest).

I have shot several Fusions and they are very nice and accurate offhand and Ransom rest. You can order it anyway you want it, so yo will have to do no customizing to get it the way you want it. But until I get mine, which seems like never, I not going to recommend them.

Springfield Custom may get you under 2 grand unless you go crazy with options.

This gun is one I bought several years ago. It was very slightly used. The guy (idiot) shot a box or two of ammo though it and it kept jamming so he sold it while he was mad and took a killing. I hand lapped it myself for half an hour and took it out and shot it. It has been perfect for years. I bought it for a song and sent it off to John Harrison for a little wango tango. I have "Baerly" over 2 grand in it now.

You can always buy a good used gun on the cheap and have it made the way you like it.

Would be a great choice though, even if you busted your $2000 budget by $200-$300.

Nighthawk is the best hands down. You may be able to find a used one if you're lucky in that range.

Les Baer Premier II.

LB's for carry, no thanks. I've seen more Les Baers puke in IPDA and USPSA matches than any other brand and on a per capita basis, terrible reliability. They are too tight IMHO for hard use or any reliability contests. Load em up with lint carrying IWB..."Danger Will Robinson." If you want to shoot slow fire bullseye, good choice. I've had to loosen LBs to make them run reliably.

I know they can be a lot less than $2K, but I think I would still recomend an STI Single Stack as a 1st choice. Trojans start at about $1K and the Sentinel Premier is about $1800. Other than that, Ed Brown 5", DW Valor, or Springfield Loaded TRP.

A lot of good options listed thus far. Honestly, I don't know that you'll find one much better than your cuurent Cooper Commemorative for under 2K...as many have said, a Ed Brown is a great option in this range.

Since the OP talked of target abd carry I would recommend the Baer Premier II without the 1 1/2" and tha Tactical Package where the sharp edges are rounded. I have a Premier II and will be sending it back to Baer for the Tactical and refinishing.

My experiences are completely opposite. I bought two STI single stacks only to send both of them back to STI because they never ran right and QC problems. One had a slide SO soft a wilson ss was cutting into it? Had never seen anythign like it, neither had my gunsmith. I've ran my Baer through IDPA matches and one of the local classes here no problems.

I can agree with everything Mark is saying except the LB part. I have seen them run better than most all brand. I have always had great luck with them. Even the tricky ones were nothing more than a few hundred rounds and maybe a extractor tweak away from fantastic. And not only do my Baers get range time, one goes into my duty holster. So I trust it that much.
