Well, here are the 1911 family pics I've been promising for quite a while. I mentioned that as soon as I got my Pistol Dynamics, I would take the pics and I'm keeping my word. Its the first family 1911 pic I've taken in nearly three years and I'm hoping it doesn't disappoint.

I'm not good at taking group pics, so these will have to do. I laid them out and then stood on a chair to shoot them. They aren't in any specific order, other than keeping like brands together. I tried to mix all price ranges into each row.

Instead of just posting a boring key right away, can anyone name all of them? ;)

In fact, I'm not sure who uses the GT casino, but I'm transferring a million casino dollars to whoever can name three dozen first. That really shouldn't be hard to do, as many of you really know your 1911s. Just the company and model name will be fine, don't worry about finish, model number, etc.

I'll post the full key once somebody names three dozen of them. If nobody gets it by late afternoon, I'll just post the key the give the cash to whoever got the most, whether its 30 or 10.

If nobody wants to try, I'll post the key later on today, but come on, have some fun. That's what GT is all about, isn't it? Of course, who knows, maybe nobody plays the casino.

Anyway, enjoy the pics...

Edit: Here's the key. I just realized how dumb these pics look without the description...

Top row: Springfield TRP, Springfield GI, Springfield TGO1, Infinity custom build, Para GI Expert, Para 1911 Limited, Sig STX, Dan Wesson Valor, Dan Wesson CBOB

2nd row: Thompson Custom 1911, Auto Ordnance GI, Colt Commander XSE, Colt Special Combat Government, Colt Gold Cup, Nighthawk Predator II, Nighthawk Enforcer, Pistol Dynamics custom build, Taurus PT 1911

3rd row: Les Baer SRP, Les Baer Concept V, Ed Brown Classic Custom, Ed Brown Kobra Carry, Firestorm DLX, Rock Island Armory GI, Norinco GI, Smith & Wesson SW1911, Smith & Wesson PC1911

4th row: Volkmann Combat Custom, Kimber Pro CDP II, Kimber Custom II, Kimber Super Match II, Yost custom build, AMT Hardballer, Unertl DLX, Ithaca USGI, Remington Rand USGI,

Bottom Row: Charles Daly EFS, Wilson Super Grade, Wilson CQB, Detonics ServiceMaster, Rock River Arms Limited Match, STI Trojan, STI Spartan, STI Legacy, Fusion Commander Elite

I apologize in advance for the lousy quality. As I mentioned before, I'm terrible with large pics, which is one reason I don't try to do it often. :embarassed:

Very nice collection I think I've seen most of them piecemeal over the years. I'm not up to naming them this morning. Still slugging through my coffee.

STUPID LAWS. . . Why would owning a hundred guns be any more "dangerous" than owning two. . . Only have two hands. . Not likely that anybody could shoot more than one or two at a time. . . .

Only down side to owning all those guns is that the US Gov now has Bac's home listed as an official US Army Reserve, Armory/Supply-Depot on all of it's maps. . . .

Hi Bac 1023,

I have a few quick question for you, Which finish holds up the best? I have Ionbond, DLC on my 1911 and think it's fantastic. I just wish the upper & lower matched. I guess because the different grades of metal the finish looks two toned when complete.

Also in your opinion, who make the best custom 1911?

bac1023
12-31-2009, 19:55
Also in your opinion, who make the best custom 1911?

The best full custom is a question that's impossible to answer. There are so many top smiths and you can pay basically as much as you want.

I think you're actually referring to the semi custom crowd and I'm going to have to say the Wilson Classic Super Grade is the best semi custom 1911 on the market by anybody.

http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/uu81/ollituc/000_1732.jpg

http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/uu81/ollituc/000_1733-1.jpg

Wilson is also the only semi custom builder that steps up their overall quality on their top pistols. By that, I'm saying that Super Grades are not built in the same fashion that a run of the mill CQB is.

Thanks Sarge. :) My OCD goes crazy when it comes to my gun collection, especially 1911s.

The raven was due to the fact that Jeff Cooper had a hsnd in designing the original Bren, so I doubt it will be on Vltor's pistol. However, anything is possible.

We'll see after SHOT 2010 in a few weeks.

To say that is a very nice collection is clearly an understatement. Thanks for taking the time to share it with us!

:) Thanks Cobra

Devel actualy made some really cool custom autos. I almost bid on a Devel S&W auto not long ago on Gunbroker.

I doubt I'd by a 1911 done by them, since there are so many others to choose from. However, I'd get something else from Devel. They go for some big bucks.

The Trojan is about the best $1000-$1100 1911 you can buy. Great trigger, great accuracy, smooth action, etc.

Mine is stock, other than the fiber optic front sight.

Wow, that is hot!!! :wow::wow: I saw that hard chroming was an option for another $300. Are those grips standard? Lastly, is that the 5 inch barrel? I want something that not only looks good, but is really reliable.

Yes and no. The grips are STI, but not standard on the stock Trojan. Mine has the ambi safety option, so these are the grips it came with. The standard Trojan has thin grips, but they can't work with the ambi safety.

Yes, the Trojan has been very reliable.

Mine has a 5" barrel, which is the only way it comes, I believe.

I think was also a consultant for Sig, and when he competed for HK, used to do custom work on his competition shooters. The man knows everyone in the business, shooters and gunsmiths alike.

It sure is! Assuming the average weight of a 1911 at ~40 ounces, and with Bac's 45 1911s, he has about 112 pounds of 1911 steel on the shelves.

Now all he has to do is add up the cost of all those 1911s and divide by 112 to get a per pound price.

I actually haven't been buying any 1911s lately either. The Liebenberg came in, but I ordered that two years ago. Its the first 1911 I picked up since last spring.

I think Ed Browns are outstanding. As far as value is concerned, I'd say they rate about equal with the other semi custom builders.

What I like about them is that they build many of their parts in house.
