Keith, from Dan Wesson, has started teasing the folks in the Dan Wesson forum on 1911Forum. These are a few of the new parts going on the 2010 line up.

New in house barstock thumb safety.

In house tool steel fire controls. The hammer, sear and disconnect are tool steel with an RC rating between 50 and 54. The hammer strut is EDM wire cut flat stock stainless.

And the barrel bushing. This is an EGW Carry Bevel bushing and an extended recoil spring plug.

Is it true that they discontinued all of their 10mm offerings for 2010? Wasn't sure if it was fact or fiction.

Yes. The word from Keith was that the 10mm didn't sell very well and for 2010 they will be suspended. Who knows what 2011 will bring.

Bummer. Thanks for the reply though.

It's good to see a manufacturer doing the right thing and increasing quality instead of cheaping out. I wish it didn't come with a price increase. The DW's are excellent guns but it seems like they have doubled in the last few years. But, like everything else you get what you pay for.

Update
25LPI front strap checkering will be at least four lines higher and eight lines higher on the Valor series. Undercut trigger guards. A much greater bevel on the Valor magwell.
Comparing an 09 CBOB to a 10 Guardian.

Yup! I think a stainless Valor will compliment my black one nicely. I think the stainless "street" price will be pretty close to the upper end of the 09 price. Probably around $1375 to $1400.

If I recall pre-CZ Dan Wessons were around $600-$700. Back then people would have laughed if you would have mentioned a DW in the same sentence as a TRP. I realize they have improved drastically since then, and continue to improve. It just would have been nice if they stayed in the bargain realm. Trust me I can appreciate a quality gun and have no problem spending $1400 on one. I just like a bargain.

The new DW finish. I copied and pasted Keith's words from 1911Forum. Looks like pretty tough stuff

2010 Uber Finish :D
I hope everyone had a happy New Years.

OK here we go the grand finally. These following pictures are of our new Duty treat. Far superior to anything we have ever used before. I am going to show you a little torture test and you can decide for yourself.

First picture is of a sample slide we had done with our new treatment.
http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/IMG_04424.JPG

This is a very nice smooth matte black finish. This is not a paint or type of plating. This finish is bonded to the metal down below the surface. Our new finish actually leaves a harder finish on the surface than your standard Stainless slide. Yes all of the Black Valor's will still be a base gun of stainless steel. The same is true for the CCO and the Guardian slides and small parts. So what I am saying is we are not cutting any corners by giving you a carbon gun with the treatment done to it.

Next up is my little torture test for you.
http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/IMG_04431.JPG

Sorry it is kind of fuzzy. It is tough to hold a file and take a picture.
I will use two hands for the test though. OK so see the file? I am going to take it at that angle and scrape at the finish. I am not going to be gentle.
OK here is the result.
http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/IMG_04452.JPG

The camera doesn't show the best, in fact half of what I did didn't show up. I know what you're thinking...He barley did anything. What is he trying to prove? Well let me tell you, what I did would have scraped the Cerakote away to bare metal and scratched the heck out of ion-bond. That file has very sharp corners and is very hard. So now see the scuff marks I put in it? It's ruined right? Wrong!
A little oil and some 000 steel wool and....
http://www.hunt101.com/data/500/IMG_04424.JPG

Ta-da! No it is not that same picture as the first. Note the flash in the different spot. Believe it or not this is what I did and this is what you are going to get in 2010.

I am not saying that this stuff is indestructible. Nothing is, but it sure beats most everything else out there.

I agree. They are a good gun, but they are NOT a great gun and certainly not worth the prices they charge IMO. If I were to get a 1911 in this price range I´d get a Les Baer instead. Just my 2 cents.

Curious why you believe that DW is not worth the price. Are there problems with them? Do they use inferior materials or parts?

In the past some parts were MIM, however the quality of hand finish just wasnt as good as a Les Baer IMO. The name Dan Wesson has been ¨whored¨ out almost as much as Charles Daly. Besides, if you want to sell it you´ll get more money for a Les Baer. DW has a cult following not unlike Keltec. That in itself however does not mean that it is a great product any moreso than Paris Hilton having many fans makes her a candidate for sainthood.

DW had used Mim in the past. Now they don't. Next years models will have barstock thumb safeties.:wow:

DW has in the last few years put out 1911's that were better made and better parts than SA regular lineup and Kimber. For less money too. Now they are getting even better , per reports form Keith. I think I will wait and see one myself before I can make an intelligent statement about their quality.
