OK, I screwed the pooch. I vacillated long enough trying to decide if I wanted an ambi-safety on a new stainless Kobra Carry (I don't), that I now have to order the pistol and wait 60-90 days...or I can get a stainless Special Forces Carry on Tuesday.

I sorta wanted a "Kobra" Carry because I flew the AH-1G "Cobra" Attack Helicopter in combat. I'm a little hesitant to get a pistol with "Special Forces" on the slide, because while I have worked for the JFKSWC I am not a genuine certified snake eater. Silly, I know - If being "Flash Qualified" was a requirement to purchase an Ed Brown Special Forces pistol, old Ed wouldn't sell very many pistols. But I digress.

Is there any compelling reason I should choose one pistol over the other? Should I get the Special Forces Carry on Tuesday or the Kobra Carry on Easter?

Checkering vs Snakeskin, that's really the only difference between the 2.

don't know who you are going through, but if you want a KC, give George a call to see if he has one

Strictly your call buddy, as all EB's are functionally built the same. Only stylistic differences.

I personally think Kobra when I think Ed Brown, sorta' like I get a Big Mac when I go to McDonalds. OK, crappy reference, but you get the idea.

Its the same gun.

I'd get the Special Forces.

In fact, there really isn't any difference in all the Ed Brown 1911s. Its just metal work and sights, really. The Classic Custom has a couple unique features, but nothing over the top.

I appreciate your view on the "SF" name. Those in the know find it offensive to commercialize the beret. If you flew Cobras, I'd look for a KC.

There always seems to be some Kobras available in the various classified sections as well as from gunbroker etc....having said that, I would go with the Kobra as it seems to be both the quintessential Brown as well as the one you really want.

I would admittedly have a hard time waiting; however, I would try to look for one that you could get sooner than 60-90 days

Its the most common Brown, I'll give you that.

The Special Forces has Chainlink. The Executive is the model with checkering.

Get a Custom Fusio....

I mean.... I would get the Special Forces personally. But if I flew Cobra's I could definitely see getting a Kobra.:wavey:

1 vote for the Kobra Carry (blue over stainless).

I looked at both the other day. I don't want the ambi safety on the Kobra. However, I thought the chainlink was too aggressive and would chew up my hands while training. I guess they were designed for people wearing gloves?

I'm leaning toward a Kobra and switching out the ambi safety for a single safety...which kinda sucks to spend even more money!

Decide which texture you like and order it with a naked slide that way you only have to decide on the bumpiness and not the billboard.

Anyway, if you are dropping that much coin on a piece, get it exactly the way you want it.

You're both right about ordering the gun the way you'd like. I just had the opportunity to hold both the other day and thought I'd share.

I'm actually thinking about selling several guns to finance the purchase. The Brown is something I'd carry maybe 4 days a week (other days would be a different gun). I'll probably carry one of my 6" revolvers, etc. 10 times in my life. So, I'm considering emptying out the safe queens for something practical, yet equally (almost) beautiful.

Wow, that should be sweet. I think I may be trading my KC for a Wilson Combat CQB - haven't decided though...

stopped by the gun shop today. they had quite a few EB's in stock.
finally got to fondle a SF. the chain link felt nice, so it would be a hard choice between choosing between the chain link and snake skin.

no, i didn't walk out with a EB, but i was close to picking one up. gonna hold off & probably order a naked slide SF from George after i get my tax return.

The STI Trojan uses the chainlink and it works well.

Just me, but for me the image that my mind paints when someone says "Ed Brown" is a Kobra Carry. Then again, for those familiar with my mind, that may be a bad thing. :whistling:

Bingo. My first pistol with it, but it won't be my last. I like it's looks, but it's performance is what I really like. Cleanup is unbelievably easy, and racking the slide is practically a sensual experience.

I'd go for the Kobra. A little wait isn't a big deal and with your background it just seems more fitting.
