View Full Version : .40 ballistics out of a G22... (or, do I need a G22 in addition to my G19?)
I have a G19 already and I have a chance to get a good deal on a gently used G22. I never had much interest in a .40 cal, but it is what the local PD use... So, I'd like to know, what are the advantages?
My current G19 SD round is Speer Gold Dot 124 GR+P.
It makes a slightly bigger hole...
I suggest doing a search over in the Caliber Corner (http://glocktalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=10&f=31) forum here. You'll find probably everything you want to know.
I carry a G23, because I want a slightly bigger hole.
See if they'll let you put a box of ammo through it before you buy it... if it's an individual selling it. Then go see for yourself.
The Glock 22 is a great handgun. If you are getting a good deal on one it would be easy to sell if you do not like it.
I am evaluating a similar scenario. The G19 is my primary carry, but the more I play around with the .40, the more I want a G22. I've borrowed one for the past couple of months and would definitely go 180 gr for carry. I favor "heavy for caliber", therefore a 180 gr .40 vs. a 147 gr 9mm would be a primary consideration for me. My testing so far with .40 loads has been impressive. I can conceal a G22 almost as well as a G19. The G22 isn't foreign to me, as I owned one in the early 90's. I feel very proficient with the G19, and getting there with the G22.
You mentioned the G22 being your local LEO gun, as is the case here. Also, I'm finding 9mm ammo pretty much non-existent locally, but .40 is plentiful. I've actually started buying .40 ammo....and I technically don't one one right now. So what does that tell you. The G19 would be my warm weather carry, with the G22 going in the colder months.
The G22 is a great gun and the 40 S&W is a great round
One nice feature of the G22 is it can easily and cheaply shoot 9mil(less than 200$ barrel/mag/maybe ejector) or 357sig(barrel only)
The LWD conversion bbls run only about $100 or so, great deal...
This past year my wife and I gave a lot of thought to the purchase of a pistol for SD/HD. We choose a G-22. I purchased a G-22RTF. It offered the largest caliber that my wife could handle effectively. It offered very good capacity. It is extremely accurate. Using a range of bullet weights, it has been 100% reliable. POI is POA at 15 yds. It is easily controllable in repeat shots. If my wife could have handled a .45 ACP, we would have bought a G-21. We are very pleased with the G-22. HTH. Sincerely. Brucev.
As I see you carry a G19...why not get a G23 instead of a G22? Same frame as that G19 that you carry so long. It would feel exactly the same gun...until it goes BANG!!!
BTW..love your videos
The G22 is a nice pistol. Mine, an RTF2 model, is a great shooter and group's 'em tight.
If you just want another gun(nothing wrong with that) then get one. With good ammo they will both do the job. I never really warmed up to the .40 even though I'm forced to carry one on duty. Rather carry a 17 or a 31.
