I know this technically isn't the right forum but the tactics and training forum isn't ever really productive.

I am purchasing a DDM4 here in the next few weeks, along with a case of 5.56. Instead of pissing it away on the range, I would love to pay to take a carbine class to truly learn.

Does anyone know of any, or can point in the right direction of carbine classes in Va? Either 1 or 3 day classes are fine.

So far im having trouble coming up with anything in Va for 2010

The US Training Center (formerly the Blackwater training division) is located in Moyock, NC (other locations include one in Illinois and another in San Diego).

That's it... Moyock, NC... isn't that close to VA? If not, I know San Diego is very close to VA... just a few day's drive, or a 5 hour flight, is all.:whistling:

Yes, Moyock is close to VA, but "close to VA" is not very helpful in relation to actual location. My post was an attempt to clarify exactly where the OP could find some courses.

I listed the other locations because I knew some detractor with nothing better to do would come out of the woodwork talking about how Moyock is not the only US Training Center out there.

Just got my Colt 2 months ago.. and have been looking for a class. Shyt I've even put a 100 rounds through it AT the NRA HQ range in Fairfax and I had no idea they offered carbine classes.

Thanks a million for that info!

This was the carbine class I am planning on signing up for when the weather gets above 50 degrees daily, its in Fredricksburg.

I saw that class listed above in Fredricksburg but I could have sworn that the site said it was in late 2009, ie already passed. I'll take another look though.

And does anyone have a link to the NRA class? When I searched all I could find was the BASIC rifle class for 12 year olds. I'm new to tactical shooting, but I know what the bolt is :whistling: haha

Thanks Guys! And yes NC is close to Va, just a state away :tongueout:

NC is still 4 hours from me, so somewhere like Fredricksberg is MUCH closer.

Oh, and by the way, DDM4 in the mail!! Should be here next week :supergrin::supergrin:

thank you very much for this link....well worth looking into. Seems this class also builds on itself, from beginning to much more intense style training.

Eventually I want to invest in the most intense training I can, and having a solid base with the same quality instructor is key.

Look into a reputable training group or training site.

Some of the well known reputable ones include:
-Gunsite
-Thunder Ranch
-Magpul Dynamics
-EAG

G19 Elite
01-06-2010, 15:19
Viking Tactics

They offer a great shooting course that is given by true professionals that have developed the techniques over years of combat and operational experience. I don't see any dates in VA but the course would definitely be worth the drive.

While the above referenced are all very good courses. The Op asked about Virginia?? You Just missed Chris Costa from Mag Pull at CCJA for 2 day Advanced Carbine Course. I was talking with Pat Rogers 2 days ago about doing a class at CCJA although we have not firmed up a date.

Please check our calendar for 2010. www.ccjatraining.com we have a Carbine Class on the 16th taught By Me (Former Blackwater Instructor) Pete Spooner former Navy SEAL and Jade Sherrocks former MARSOC Marine. We also have a Range day only on the 17th for CCJA Alumni only.

You can read AAR's on the course at:

M4CARBINE.NET
AR15.COM
MarylandShooters.com

I look forward to training with you. This upcoming course will be more dynamic as we have several contractors who are deploying for Triple Canopy that will be attending.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call me at the Academy (540) 322-3000 tell Cindy or Nancy you are from Glock Talk and they will come get me and I will answer your questions. Need a Carbine or Glock or gear to take the course let us know we have loaners in stock.

Thanks!

Tom you've just scored a new customer.. great response as I would have to rent a handgun to fulfill the requirements for the course. I may not have the $$$ for the ammo & gear before the 16th.. but there is no doubt as soon as I do Im signing up for your course.

I have a question, all these training schools seem to cater to the military/special forces guys, the SWAT/SRT guys, the contractor guys. Then there is me, Joe Shmoe, the "hobbiest" who has no military past, not a LEO. I'm not a wannabe, just a guy who'd like to get some solid training with my carbine. Something better than shooting down a lane at my local range. And it just seems a little intimidating being just a "hobbiest". Is there a class out there that is "hobbiest" friendly? I just would hate to be in a class with a bunch of experienced guys and feel like I'm slowing down the class.

Anybody looking for cheap quality ammo for a carbine course like this.. just got an email from Marks Outdoors in Alabama. 500 rnds of Federal 193 for $149 bucks. Thats brand name ammo for under .30 cents a round. Perfect for a carbine course.. Ordering now so I'll be prepared for the next class.

Keep in mind that you should go thru atleast 500 rounds in a 1 day course.. so ammo is going to be one of your biggest expenses.

Vickers Tactical has several classes scheduled for the U.S.Training Center (Formally Blackwater U.S.A.) for 2010. For the Virginia guys this is no more than 35-45 minutes South of the Virginia border.

Some are posted, but others are coming ASAP and should be on the schedule this week.

http://vickerstactical.com/training-by-larry-vickers/2010-training-schedule/

Grey Group Training also has a large number of classes in the Fayetteville, NC area for 2010. That would be another hour and a half down the road for Virginia guys.

http://stores.greygrouptraining.com/-strse-TRAINING/Categories.bok

Classes from Larry Vickers, TigerSwan, Ken Hackathorn, Bennie Cooley, Paul Howe, Rob Haught, Dave Harrington, "South Narc", and Steve Tarani. Plus more to come.
