I have just reviewed various articles of Ballistic Resistance of Body Armor to various handgun and rifle calibers. It seems that the 357 sig is quite a strong performer with type II and sometimes IIIA performance depending on the round. Here is a list of various loads and their NIJ classification.

Although not the best comparison, The Box O' Truth did a test of various rounds versus a Level II armor. The 357 Mag was tested (357 sig was not tested) penetrated the armor.
