Another Gold Dot 124+p ballistics test

This is my first expansion test. I took one of my personal SD rounds (Speer Gold Dot 124+p) and did a simple water jug expansion test. I know its not the gellatin or the other "media" that would problably be more realistic, but its all I had. I just wanted to test for myself instead of watching a bunch of videos.

Anyway, I lined up 4 jugs of water. The test round was fired from 20ft away with a glock 17. When I fired the shot, the first jug exploded! Water came at me and drenched my entire body. The round actually exploded the first two jugs. The bullet went through three jugs and barely went into the 4th jug, settling in the bottom. I got an estimated 15 inches of penetration and .63inches expansion. I am quite pleased with the results and am more than confident in this round as a SD ammo. Here are some pics :)

Unless you live in a nudist colony or on a beach you may want to put some clothing in front. Most tests w/ GD show significant expansion degradation, vs other premium loads, after heavy clothing, particularly with 4 layer denim.

You do have a good point. My test does not take in the effect of denim clothing. After looking at other sources such as the Firearms Tactical Institute website, I do see that Speer GD 124+p lose some expansion with denim covered media. I am still on the fence about the 124 vs 147 delima. Thats why I have mags of both. Its interesting to find that the 147gr does not lose much expansion at all...hmm..thanks for bringing this to my attention sir :)

Actually, everyone around where I live is wearing a lot thicker clothing than that.

The 124+P Gold Dot is my 9mm carry load. Great round.

Last night I was attacked by a block of ballistic gelatin wearing a down jacket and a hoodie. Seriously, shot placement is way more important than the difference between 124 and 147 grains of lead and copper.
