so who makes the best quality 9mm ar? I was thinking about getting one. I definately want a factory 9mm gun - I don't want to convert my only AR and have to mess with switching back and forth as I shoot my 5.56 quite often so it's just easier to have two rifles.

I know Colt made some of them, but those seem to be hard to find and very expensive. likewise I read that the olympics are pretty shoddy quality. Anyone have any experience with the products from bushmaster, rock river, or other makes?

Anyone with first hand knowledge to share it is greatly appreciated.

I have had a Colt 9mm and a RRA 9mm. The Colt ran great and I wish I never sold it. The RRA took me a while to get to work. It finally did. If you can find a Colt that is what I recommend.

My RRA 9mm runs flawlessly on factory mags, not so with other popular mags.
Stick with the modded Uzi mags, and you'll be happy. But even with the aftermarket mags, it ran 90% or better. To be fair, I'm shooting up a bunch of HP bullets, and thats when the missfeeds started:cool:

I guess I got lucky. Bought a stripped lower ordered a 9mm kit from Model 1. Added cheap magazines. C-Products my favorite, and Pro-Mag Plastic Mags work and it has been great. I don't even know who made the components from the kit. :)

It is certainly a fun gun to shoot. Getting ready to build a 9mm SBR when my tax stamps come. I will probably get better / specific components. I hope it runs as well as my cheap one.

My Colt 9mm has been a fantastic shooter since the day I took it out of the box. Both Colt and C-Products mags work perfectly in it. It even gobbled up extremely weak reloads that wouldn't even work in my Glock 17. I can't recommend against anything else, but I'll give a strong vote for Colt.

How come 9mm uppers cost so much?

My RRA 9mm runs great. I have never had an issue with it yet. I have whaled on it at Bullet Fest here in Ohio and all I have used is 30 round Pro Mags. I bought some modified UZI mags at first from two different Companies and I had troubles with them so I bought the cheap aftermarket ones and I have not had an issue since.:dunno:

My Olympic Arms 9mm rfile has been a pleasure. Thousands and thousands of rounds. And it uses inexpensive Sten mags for $3 in bulk. Must have two dozen. Get a mag block and you can rock.

Colt and RRA use a different systems and the mags are $$$$$ more.

I've owned a Bushmaster Carbon 15 9mm carbine for a few years. Have never had an issue with it; runs great.

I finally got a Lone Wolf R&D 9G lower and ordered a Spike's Tactical 9mm upper. I think a carbine that takes Glock mags is the way to go. The interchangabillity is the "coolness" factor for me. I can't wait to put this together and go to the range!

Hey Cruiser: What foregrip/bi-pod is that you have mounted on your carbine? I've been thinking about picking up a Mako T-pod, they look pretty slick.

Here's a pic on of one of the 9G's paired with a CMMG upper that Dan has posted before.

Mine's been ok. The groups at 600m are not exactly what I had hoped for...

I also highly recommend Olympic Arms conversions. The early Colt 9MM I have is a POS that will only shoot 124 grain NATO FMJ without jamming 100%

I hear the new ones are better but I am not playing after being skunked by this turkey. I had to hand load a few cases just to have functioning weapon

How well does the 9mm cartridge perform in an AR platform as compared with rifle rounds ?

How well does it perform as compared to a full size pistol ?

Anyone have documentation on this ?

People have chrono'd 115 and 124 rounds going 1400-1500 plus fps out of a 16" 9mm AR-15 barrel.

Takes 9mm into the 357 sig realm of performance.

Well worth the effort.

I run slower powders like HS-6 and Power Pistol and these rounds are fast and accurate easily to 70 yards. Past that, it is 223 at a minimum.
