I pulled a few to handload. I thought a cannelure was for crimping(help prevent bullet setback0, On the HSTs it is way below the crimp line. Maybe its to help expansion or against jacket seperation?:dunno:

If I had to guess it's to prevent seperation.

I'm pretty sure its to stop the jacket petals from expanding any farther and to hold onto the lead core. I think that's one reason why the HST holds on to its jacket better than the Ranger-T and Golden Saber.
