9mm vs 45GAP (not a caliber war)

I posted this at the end of another long thread but thought it might not get much viewing so I decided to start a new thread. Not meant to be a "caliber war" so please keep it at the newbie level:

I haven't read every single post in this thread but nobody seems talk about follow up shots with the 9 compared to the 45. Last night I was shooting double taps with my G26 with amazingly good results for me (still a newbie). Anyway, not sure I could do the same with a 45GAP. I'm sure others will have better experience with this aspect. To me, I think that unless you are a leo or very well trained it would be more important for SD to get off several rounds quick than fewer big rounds like the 45. Also, as for number of rounds, in a home invasion there are usually more than one attacker, so I'd think having more rounds is better. Say 3 BGs enter your home abruptly and you only got 7+1. Anyway, my two cents.

Debated this very issue a few weeks ago. I have previously owned a G26. I ended up getting a G39 and am very happy. I love both rounds, but for CCW, I want the power of the GAP.

I wouldn't have a GAP but this is a standard capacity vs power question.

With modern ammo the 9mm has plenty of power so if you think you can shoot it better with faster follow up shots it will serve you well.
If you want a bit more power and don't mind a little added recoil, the .45 will fit the bill with a few less rounds.

I may go against the tide. If you shoot better with the 26 stick with it, but your bullet potential is down with the short barrel. I will not own a 45 GAP, but the ballstics I see put it pretty closed to standard pressure 45 ACP. I have a G19, G23, G32 and XD45ACP compact and I never carry the G19 even though I am stocked up with 127 gr. +p+ Ranger T's. If you can handle the GAP I would go with it, and although this is a Glock forum, you may want to look at the XD45 Compact, which is the best SD 45 ACP gun that I have found.

That's what it comes down to. They are both effective defense calibers. One offers more capacity. The other a heavier bullet. I like 'em both.
