I need some info on decent gun lube to be used on 1911 pistols, i live in a fairly dry climate... i have been using Break Free CLP, i find it does not last, any suggestions? i hear a lot about gunbutter, and miltec 1....UPDATE I GOT A SAMPLE OF WEAPON SHIELD, IN A NICE APPLICATOR, AND IT IS FREE, THIS IS BETTER THEN FP10, same fellow makes it, it is quite slick and great for 1911s...IMHO, thanks for all your imput, i am sticking with weapon shield for what it is worth..

I use Wilson Optima Lube Oil/grease mix in the tube for the rails and tip of the disconnector. Precise application with the syringe and stays where I put it pretty much. CLP on the internals.

I like all 3 of the Wilson lubes. Their oil, oil/grease mix, and grease.

Mobile 1 5W20 on 1911 rails. It will stay and slicks it up good. You don't need much.

Mix up some of this,....

-Lizzard Snot

12 ounces Mobil 1 10W30
8 ounces synthetic ATF
8 ounces Marvel Mystery Oil
4 ounces STP engine treatment
4 ounces Kano Kroil

You can make a smaller batch, just use keep the ratio the same.

I have to wonder why you would mix some of those together.
ATF will actually cut the viscocity of the oil as will the kroil. They do not belong together as they will make the oil less of a lubricant and the kroil smells horrible.

Kroil smells great,........
I didn't question the mix, it's a CLP. It works very well.
When I am given something to try from an individual with 30+ years Match shooting experience,
I do not question or complain. If you want to try it great, if you don't great, I don't care.

It works for me,.................

I've used Militec (it was free) and really liked it.

I want to try SlideGlide because i've heard nothing but rave reviews about it, but I'm lazy. I'll get around to it one day.

I use FP-10, Weapon Shield and Slide Glide. Weapon Shield works slightly better than FP-10 in my opinion but they are similar because they were formulated by the same person.

A few dots of Wilson grease on the rails and everything else dry and clean. Has worked well for years of duty use.

I also used to use break free also. It's a good lube but Weapon sheild or FP-10 are both better...Consistancy is alot thicker.... The two brands are pretty much the same thing, and actually have a nice smell to them not that that matters....You can actually go to weaponsheild.com and get a free sample shipped to you in a nice pen oiler for free...Their both worth a try!!

I want to try SlideGlide because i've heard nothing but rave reviews about it, but I'm lazy. I'll get around to it one day. I've been using it for about three years since I met the guys at Grayguns. No splatter, and it stays put. I'm trying Wilson next as it is supposed to be good too.

*I sent away for a sample of weapon shield, comes in applicator syringe, this stuff is great i cant find anything better, if u use fp10,try WS same guy invented it, ill stick with ws especiallly for my 1911s, a little goes a very long way, not effected by weather....I used Hoppes Gunoil prior and it also sems to stay on my guns,as well, I cant figure out why BREAK FREE CLP , would dry off my guns in a few weeks or after one day at the range,I live in Colorado where it is dry, anyone else have that problem with break Free???

true, but i think the FP-10 recipe has been changed, which is why George left and made Weapon Shield. (Could be wrong on this)

I use FP-10 but I have had it for a while. I got a lot, several years ago, before WS.

Georgia Climate must be easy on oil.

I have always used plain Hoppes Gun oil in the orange bottle. It is cheap and it works well. I lube before I shoot on guns that I shoot a lot and clean frequently. On my carry gun, I try to keep the oil to a minimum--a wipe down with an oily rag, inside and out.

I use grease on my Sigs' rails -- because they reccomend it at Sig and at Gray's Guns.

I only use oil on my handguns. The only thing I put grease on is my M1.
