The .40 is a good round. Congrats on your son both getting his training and paying you for the pistol you taught him on. Best.

BETTER would be a .357 sig or the best is a Glock 38 in the new
.45 gap.
It will stop the bad guy.

Lots of people do not like the .40 short & very weak. Even knowledgeable LEO's.

I hope the $500 is to shop for a new gun for your son. I would hate to think you would charge him 500 for a used Glock.

I personally would rather have a G17.

Don't give up on the 23, there are several web sites selling used ones.

At the present I have two G-23's and am in the market for a G-22.
My Son is a LEO in Texas and able to carry the pistol of his choice "within reason"
He is left handed and loved shooting my G-22, so when he started his classes for LEO I gave him My G-22. He carries it both on duty and off.
I am going to give him a G-23 for off duty use if he wants it, and get me another 22.

You mean to tell me that my .40 "short and very weak" won't stop the bad guy? Guess I better start shoppin for a new Glock.

That will work to. Both rounds do fine as long as we put them where it counts. I'm planning to get a used G19 someday myself, & the G17 has done well for a lot of people.

well every time i own multiple pistols that use different ammo i end up not being able to afford ammo. When i only had 9mm i always had money for ammo. $16 for .45 is not affordable. $14 is steap. i need to stock up on a single pistol rnd. this is the way to go. for me. when i got my g19 i remembered how much i was able to practice. this G17 was $450 and looks like it is new inside and out. the .40 is better than the .45 in my opinion. and better than 9mm, but til the price of ammo comes down, 9mm it is.

i dont own a .40 any more. ive shoot plenty of .40cal.

why do folks like the .40 over other calibers?

9mm not big enough?, 45acp too big?, 10mm too powerfull? these are the only reasons i could figure might make scense to some.

^I like the size of 9mm Glocks and around here 9mm is just as expensive. In my area 9mm is hard to find while .40 has been on the shelf since the very beginning of the ammo shortage. When I bought my first .40 I was considering a G19 but when I looked for 9mm ammo there was none to be found, but .40 was all over the place and the G23 was the same size pistol.

Even though the .357 is superior the .40 will shoot through windshields where the 9mm will not do it. Just so you know. :whistling:

People are always saying this is better or that is better. I wanted to be defiant. They are all about the same.

In times of ammo shortages I have always been able to buy 40 S&W ammo.

That is one good reason to keep one around.

I love the .40. I've had my G23 for about 5 years now. I figured the .40 is the best overall between the 10mm and 9mm. Ammo isn't to bad. More stopping power than a 9, and almost as much as a 45. Easy to carry and shoot. My next weapon will be a 10mm. Kinda have an itch to own a small cannon. But I'll always carry my G23.

Sounds more like that the son liked the gun so much he wanted to make him a offer he couldn't refuse, the price of a new gun.

I'm sure he will take him to shoot it some more, paying for both shooters ammo. (Hint hint)
