I've been wondering about this, since it seems that everyone who displays a carbine here and I ask about chrono results, I get no answer. I'd like to know if anyone here has a .45, 9mm, etc., carbine that you load for and have chrono'd the results.

Here's a site with chrono results comparing barrel lengths of factory ammo. Should give an idea as to what to expect from handloads. My 9mm 16" barrel gets about 1240 fps and in a G19 near 1050 fps using 124 grain bullets.

Ouch, a 12" carbine spitting a 230gr HP at 1090fps is pretty sick...

My rossi lever action .357 with a 20 inch barrel got up to 2400 fps with 110 gr bullets and a max load of w296.

My Lyman manual has separate sections for 9mm in carbine and pistol.

For example, the same 125JHP with W231 shows 1043 at max load pistol, 1106 in the carbine. Doesn't appear to be much gain in velocity at all with the 9mm, across the board...typically 100fps or less.

On a side note, once HiPoint comes out with their fabled 45acp version, my 9mm is up for sale in a heartbeat.

it's been a while but i'm thinking my 9mm loads gained about 200-250 FPS from a carbine.

Even more reason for me to want the 45ACP carbine I'm looking at. :supergrin:

That just sent shivers running down my spine. I really wonder what terminal ballistics are with a caliber that size going at rifle velocities look like...

Which fabled version is that?

Doesn't seem too much of an incentive to make a carbine out of 9, I do know they're well suited for submachine guns, though.

Even more reason for me to want the 45ACP carbine I'm looking at. :supergrin:

And I'm fairly sure that a sage reloader here or two can beat that any day of the week!

I load for my Ruger PC4 and Hi-point 9mm. I don't have a chrony and don't care, just enjoy shooting both.I use Bullseye or Unique at the loading manuals suggested amount and both Carbines work great.Put a gallon jug filled with water about 75 yds out and hit it with the PC4 and the jug flew apart.

Thats how I chrono my loads:supergrin:

To the OP, my RRA 9mm, picks up 200fps over my handguns.

In a .357 carbine 125 grain JSPs will roll a coyote like a bowling ball.

I load 40s&w for my kel-tec sub2k.. I have a chrony just haven't gotten to the range to do any testing...yet.

How long is the barrel?

Depends on which side of the barrel you are on....:whistling:

I wonder what it'll do to an intruder?

That has to be an interesting one. Please keep me posted!

I will defintily post some results when I get this done. I'm wondering if I can get 165gr to 180gr boolits running 1700 to 2000 fps....that's gotta be a good hog round.

Good thread btw....this same curiosity was what got me to buy a chrony in the first place. Just gotta get out to the range to check it out.

My integrally suppressed 9mm AR only has about 7.5” of barrel but 3.1 of N310 sends a 147g out at 920fps not huge thump but its silly quiet.

If I’m looking to roll some hogs around my 458 socom spits a 405g at them just shy of 1700fps.

This one gives you a good idea that, in average, you can get some 200fps more out of the 9, when using factory loads. I'm sure that reloaders here will put them to shame with a quickness.

Dude, that wouldn't just be a good hog round! :whistling:

Thanks! I noticed that we're always talking about loading for handguns and rifles, even blackpowder, but I haven't seen one thread about carbines or submachine guns. I'm going to get a chrono, sooner or later, and I won't hit the range without it. It's much safer to use one so you know when you're pushing the envelope.

Loading subsonic? I don't know way too much about this subject, obviously, that's why I'm inquiring about it, but I don't think that a longer barrel wouldn't have much of an increase in velocity.

That's because you're an animal. I like it. :supergrin:

RRA 9mm= 16"
CZ75B= 4.75"

RRA 9mm= 16"
CZ75B= 4.75"

Would I be correct to equate every inch after the 4.75" to be a gain of approx. 59-60fps?
