View Full Version : Need weather data sent to cell phone via text message
I figure the outdoors forum may know this one:
I need to have the current atmospheric conditions sent via text message to my cell phone. Specifically, I want current temperature, wind direction and speed, humidity, and pressure. I've already looked at Google and weather.com's service and they are just what I need but neither one has all the parameters I want. I'm thinking NOAA has the data but I can't see how to have it sent via text.
OK, I will bite. Why?
I assume you don't have a PDA type phone that is capable of accessing the net and NOAA.
Boaters, specifically ocean sailors have long looked for this type of data. I know of no service for them that provides it yet. Weather fax, yep. laptops, sure. HAM and SSB radio transmissions are the norm. But nothing I know of that is sent via text to your phone with that specific data.
Depending on your need, why not a friend or significant other that can relay it to you at set intervals?

For the ballistic computer on my I-touch. The atmospheric data is very important for long range shooting. If I had an I-phone it'd be no problem. But alas, I do not.

take a look at weatherbug.com with their premium package.
Yeah I saw them but I didn't want to pay anything. I got an answer in the Tech Talk forum from a pilot. Its not user friendly but should work with some practice.
Just in case someone else can use weather.com parameters here's how . . .

Good Luck
