Everyone that has the 6.8 pleased with it? Have one more lower I am building up and wondering what to do with it. I have an 18", 16", 10.5" in 5.56 and a DPMS 308. Not sure if I need a 6.8 or will gain that much with it. Was thinking to just slap a BCM middy in 556 and be done. Any opinions?

I have a MK12 Mod 0 SPR clone in 6.8. I love it. Very accurate, and potent.

Its got a little more kick than the 5.56, but its also throwing twice the bullet downrange.

You already have a bunch of .556 rifles. I would get the 6.8 upper. More horsepower in pretty much the same package as the other rifles. You can hunt deer and hog with it.

If you got one in 308, I see no need for a 6.8. But want, is another thing

I would love to have one, but the ammo is so darned expensive compared to 5.56 or even to 7.62! At nearly $1/round, I have a hard time justifying it. 7.62 is about half the cost and even better performance, so I'd just as soon get a dedicated AR10. (which you already have: WIN) After a few hundred rounds, you've saved enough on the ammo to cover the additional cost of a dedicated 7.62 AR over a 6.8 upper.

The only thing I didn't like about my 6.8 was the availability of "plinking" ammo. When I first got mine SSA had the 115 OTM pretty cheap and Remington had tons of MC available.

But I love it more since I took the bipod and scope off. SSA has 90gr TNT for about $0.80/round now.

I have two POF 6.8's and I absolutely love them. Ammo is expensive but that gave me a good excuse to learn how to reload.

I've been shooting 6.8 in 16" spec 2 chamber, polygonal rifling for about a year now in a midweight bbl and it has been a tack driver. Sold off my Browning 7mm rmag and now use this for deer out to 350 with no issues. SSA and a few others offer ammo at fairly decent cost unless you are planning to shoot it ALOT. I have grown really fond of this caliber and the recoil compared to 7.62.

Go with 6.8...I'd love to get one. The only drawback is that ammo is $$!!

The 6.8 gives guys that own an AR15 the option to legally hunt deer and hogs with it. It is becoming the number one choice in hog infested areas all over the south and even Hawaii. Handloads in rifles with the SPCII or 6.8x43 chamber and 11 twist barrels can be terminally effective to 300yds. 110gr bullets can hit 2800 from a 16" barrel, the 85 gr Barnes TSX is very deadly at 3100fps and Barnes has a new 95gr TTSX coming.
If SAAMI or CIP will release the approved 6.8x43 chamber spec Winchester said they would load 6.8 ammo at a decent price so I hope Winchester White box is not too far away.

My Stag Model 7 Hunter in 6.8mm SPC is now my only AR. Got rid of my 5.56mm rifles. (Get some of the awesome Barrett 30-round mags if you want 6.8mm hi-caps.)

On the other hand, if I wanted to use an AR to punch paper or shoot prairie dogs, I'd have kept a good heavy-barreled flattop 5.56mm NATO top end.

Unfortunately, my Stag M7 really loves Hornady TAP, which is now supposed to be unavailable to civilians (curses on Hornady for that!), and thus is very difficult to find.

My 6.8 is soo much more versitile than a 308.. It takes Deer with no problem and it's optimized for a shorter barrel no need to go over 16 inches at all.

My vote get a 6.8 go to 68forums to see the best chamber and twist info.
