View Full Version : Which One to Buy for HD?
New to shotguns looking for home defense with cost in mind. Maverick 88 for $195 or Mossberg 500SP Persuader $265? Both 12 gauge, 18 inch barrels Thanks for the help.
Here is my Maverick 88 that I got for $199. I only like HD shotguns with extended mag tubes so this one was perfect for me along with the price. Plus the money I saved allowed me to buy a side saddle, heat shield, a light and a sling. It makes holes just as good as any other shotgun I have owned in my life.

My Mossberg 500 has been very reliable. In fact, shot it today.

mossberg 500
The Mossberg may (or may not) have more aftermarket support if that is important to you.
Also, if you are a lefty, or intend to train shooting from the "weak" side or unorthodox positions, the 500's ergonomics (primarily the safety location) may work better.
Bottom line...shoulder both and see which one fits you best.
I have a 870 with 18"barrel for HD and love it. I practice with it all the time, perfect pump shotgun imo
Just my opinion.
Bud's gunshop has the Remington 870 HD Express on sale
for $332.00 and that's including shipping.
For a few bucks more go with the Remington.
Check out Aippi's articles on the 870 at www.aiptactical.com (http://www.aiptactical.com)
