Hi,

I've been thinking about getting a 1911 to add to my collection. The gun show is coming to town tomarrow, and I was going to go there to see if I could find any good deals. The most I can spend is about 600.00. Is there any decent 1911's that I can find In that range? What would you guys recommend?

STI Spartan, RIA tactical, used SA Loaded.
These are solid guns that should be in that price range.

Hopefully I'll find something good. I wouldn't mind used. If not probably going to end up bringing home another glock.

See if you can find any Para GI Expert 1911's.
I have handled them, but never shot them. They seem to be pretty good. The reviews (for that's worth) have been pretty favorable.

The net seems to have prices in the $500 to $550 range. Good luck. Do some searching on the net and see if that gun excites you.

The cheapest 1911 I own cost me @ $1100, but I'm tempted to get one of these Para's; really tempted. Cannot explain it. Good luck and what a great problem to have.

I wouldn't go to a gunshow shopping until I knew exactly what I wanted and how much I was willing to pay for it. You are the type of buyer the vultures are waiting for.

Thats not the question I was asking. :tongueout: However the 1911 is among many guns I am possibly willing to purchase.

That was one of the ones I was considering.

Centerfiresystems.com has the Rock Island Tactical for $419.99. Screw the gun show. The guys at the gunshow will have got them from there and be trying to sell them for $600.

For the money, the RIA Tactical is a better gun, hands down and by far, than the Para GI Expert.

The Firestorm/Metroarms are nice(at least mine is) If you can't find a Rock Island, check out the Citadel 1911s. I have read lots of good things about them.

Good luck at the show. I would probably keep an eye out for something used (maybe even something an individual has for sale) and just what catches your eye. At that price point, the suggestions above are good (with a slight preference toward an STI Spartan from me); however, I would look for a used option to get a little more bang for your buck.

If nothing jumps out, don't get another Glock just to get something...unless you really want one. Instead, come home, log on, and find a good deal on line.

Got my 1911. Its a SA. GI. spec. 1911-A1. Paid 550.00 for it I don't think I did to bad. Heres a pic its not the best, but all I have is a cell phone right now.

Excellent! I have one just like it. Mine has been flawless in every respect... well worth what I paid. Now all you need to do is clean and lube the pistol, buy some ammo and head for the range!

I did that within 2 hours of bringing it home. Only thing I did different was took some of my reloads out of the cabinent instead of buying more. Gun shoots great. Its snowing pretty bad right now but I'm still thinking about going out again today.

Went and shot it for the 3rd time this morning before work. I was using reloaded ammo with 200 gr. hornady XTP-HPs . Only fired 28 rounds as it was -5 degrees F. I like the gun so far, no stopages with the xtps. had a few feeding problems with some reloaded 230 gr. ball, nothing that shouldn't work out with time. heres my target from this morning, shooting from 10 yards. Only missed the circle 1 time, I blame it on the cold. :whistling:

Good shooting! Especially given the weather, very good shooting indeed. The SA Mil-Spec is a great 1911!

Your 230gr ball should be your most reliable, even if they are reloads. Take the gun apart and drop some reloads in the barrel. See if there is a problem with the rounds chambering. They should drop right in and back out. Take the rounds that you have "barrel checked" out to shoot. They should shoot OK, if not, we go to the next step of diagnosis.

I don't think its my reloads I've loaded thousands of them and never had a problem. When the round is being stripped from the magazine it hits the feed ramp and wedges the cartridge in to the top of the chamber and against the feed ramp at and angle. I'm thinking it might be oal or the gun just needs to be shot more. Either way I was using WWB .230 gr. FMJ and it was doing it with those once in a while also. I'm gonna polish the ramp slightly with some rough and a felt wheel and then I think it will run like a top.

well took it out again yesterday after lightly polishing the ramps, and reliability was way better, now only one stopage in 80 rounds.

I had this happen with my last Springer TRP.

I shortened the OAL a bit & failer to feeds stopped.

150 rounds later I could shoot the longer OALs.

My gun needed a break in period.
