I just put a SS SA px9155l on layaway. It's a 40. It was less than $500, so it had my name on it!

Anyone know anything about these? Of maybe have one?

Thanks

My advise is say no...

The 40S&W is difficult(not impossible) to get to work correctly even in a 5 inch 1911.

A quick check of the model number provided this thread..

the 40 is too short for rthe 1911 envelope, it was designed around a longer cartridge..45acp 38 super

i have had a .40 caliber 1911, had it back in the early 90's, no issues from it. i now have a springfield 1911-A1 in 9mm, 1988 production. no problems feeding anything, low recoil, and accurate:

So, you're saying they have a feeding problem, ejecting problem or both?

Worst case scenario, I buy it, don't like it and convert it to .45acp.

I can't see that happening but we'll see...

Not a real good caliber for a 1911 at all.

Bac1023,

Why is that? Why is the .40 bad in the 1911?

I hope you're not telling me it's a piece of crap after I put money down on it.

Yikes!

it would(should?) be cheaper to buy a .45 acp 1911 than convert the .40 as the bolt face would have to be cut larger, no??

I agree. It's a rather odd setup.

Don't sweat bullets just yet bud. There are many 40's out there running fine in race guns. They are sometimes harder to get to feed correctly than a 45 ACP and especially than a 38 Super. But I would not worry especially with the customer service of Springfield Armory as they will get it running (if) you have problems.

STI have gotten 40's to run fine for years you sleep comfortably until you have problems then let Springfield help you out.
