Went over to the fiancées aunts house for her birthday, and I got a present. Her Aunt seems to have been into gun buying awhile ago and had several Smiths. I was checking out the 14 and then she told me I could take it, because it was too big. I argued but gave in, and it came home with me.
The finish is not great and had a tiny bit of surface rust starting, which came off no problem. The Serial # is K413XXX and it is marked under that MOD then 14 - 1. Then on the Crane (thing that flips out if that isn't the right word) it is marked 35100 with a Z kinda off center under that and what looks like a tiny 8 or 3 on the other side, under those two lines is an "A" kinda under the 8 or 3. Now on the Cylinder it has an "L" stamped on it.
It locks up as tight as any new gun I have handled and seems to have a smooth as glass trigger pull. It has rubber Hogue grips, but I also have the original target wood grips though they are a little chipped up. I will try to get some pictures up as soon as I can get the camera to talk to the computer again. If anyone has any info on what the different stampings mean that would be great, just curious really. I think the year is 61ish.
I may have Smith or someone else refinish it just to keep the metal good, and it will be a shooter, I have no plans on selling it off. It may actually become a nightstand gun.
