I was in a Cabelas store today and saw a High Standard 1911 that was a basic mil-spec at what I thought was a good price. Not much over $450.00.
I remember High Standard from way back but haven't heard anything about them in a long time.
Anyone know anything about this gun?
Forged frame and slide?
Lot of Mim parts?
Anything at all?

cast frame/slide is standard for HS.
get an all forged Springer GI instead...seriously.

This gun would be the same as a Rock Island gun, and the others made by Armscor.
It's made in the Philippines, and sold under the High Standard name.

High Standard does make some American made 1911's, but those are all over 1000.00.

Identical to the Rock Island GI and made by Armscor in the Philippines.

Mine works great.

What Bac said. The one I examined at Gander Mountain seemed well put together. FWIW, that is about $50 less than I paid for my GI LW Champion last year.
