View Full Version : Scratches on a blued finish - Cold bluing?
Got a couple noticeable scratches(noticeable to me anyway) on the flats near the muzzle on my Colt S70 repro. Really unsure how it happened since it's been babied for the most part.
At any rate, I know there's no real easy way to get the scratches out on a blued finish. However, would cold bluing the spots in question make it less noticeable or just make it look even worse? Just wondering.
Those aren't scratches they're character. Guns get scratched. Don't use cold blue that just ruins the value. I've never seen cold blue that looked worth a damn.
I keep a tube of Birchwood and Casey cold bluing on hand for conditions just like this at all times. I have been using it for years. I like to do a little touch-up on my guns right after I clean them. I never know how the scratch gets there but I do notice it and it bugs me to see a scratch on my guns. I hope this helps.
I used G96 cold blue on a Kimber I recently got on a trade, worked absolutely great on this pistol.
