Comanders and their short barrels confuse me, need help. Is a 70 series gun shooting standard loads for concealed carry.

Standard spring for a Commander is an 18lb.
My Ed Brown came with a 20lb spring.

Is it a standard 1911 government spring or is there a shorter one for comanders?

It is shorter. Order commander length. My Les Baer Commanche comes stock with a 21#.

How far is your brass flying??? If over 10' go for a heavier spring, if they are falling at your feet short(less than 2') go for the 18#. 20# is heavy 18 is standard.

That is the way I have always aprroched it.
If your brass is falling at your feet, then go for a lighter spring.
If your brass is flying over 10/12 feet, then go for a heavier spring.
Once you have a spring that trows the brass somewhere between 2 to 10 feet then you have a good combo if it feeds correctly.

18 lb'ers is what is the normal and supposed to be used. But some go to 20 with the heavy +P fodder.
And if you are shooting light lead reloads I shoot a 16 lb. It sounds confusing but it isn't, just use the brass flying rule as posted above.

Make sure you do not use the Variable springs!! Get the conventional or constant rate springs.

Why??

Why??

Variables are the worst of all worlds.
First they mess with the over all timing of the gun.
Then at the end of the slide movement when the trying to get the cartridge in the chamber the spring is at it's weakest.
