well i am looking to pick up a 12ga for the house. i figured i am better off with that then my plr 16. i was looking for one i would not have to worry about the finish rusting (i am in se fl). i was set on a 870 marine but then i saw the 897. so i figured id come to the experts.

thanks

No, No and NO to the the 887. It is new and there will be issues with it. Stick with the 870 and if you want a durable finish get the parkerized P model. You don't need the marine finish unless it is going to be out on the salt water in a boat. Parkerizing is all you need. I have my custom builds being carried on duty in Broward, Palm Beach, Dade and other counties down there and they are parkerized and there are no issues with rust.

If cost is not an issue the yes, the marine finish is the most durable if taken care of properly.

there is a thread on the 887 already and it doesnt look good for this model. I personally hate it just on looks alone but who really cares what it looks like as long as it does its job right?

I like the old 870 and I like the Benelli Supernova tactical even better if I had to choose 2 must own pumps in my life.

I actually think the 887 is suppossed to compete with the polymer Benelli Supernova since they are both polymer pump actions. I think it missed the mark by a long shot in my opinion though.

Get an 870 and if you have a problem with it rusting....send it off to get duracoated.

If the 870 is good the 887 should be better. Either would do find for HD, that latter would not need a trip to get duracoated, since it coated in a protector.

+1 Reminton 870 Find a police trade in 870 police 2 3/4" is fine. You can bet the quality of an old 870 police.

I have 2 870 express, one is 3 years old and the other 4 with not a speck of rust on them. I'm not a LEO so they're not in a car rack or pointed at someone during a light drizzle. Mine get shot a lot but cleaned every time afterwards. I also keep a gun&rod cloth handy to wipe my firearms down after being handled. And I agree, nothing else screams "get the f#@k out of my house!" like a 12 gauge!

870
It's my #1 choice also.
I have an express, but also a P model parkerized.
Just keep them clean and every so often wipe them
down with a light coat of gun oil.

Parkerized 870, but they still rust. Keep it oiled, if it is really a problem, spray it with whatever gun paint you want.

i ended up with a marinecote 590 with a pistol grip. its the first shotgun i ever shot. and woah after 15 or so rounds and 2 days later i can still feel it in my hand. after seeing the buckshot on the target i can see why its a good hd gun. my friend mentioned that they have slugs that have smaller ball behind them. is there such a thing? what does everyone use for hd?

Not sure about th eslugs with smaller balls behind it but they do have whats called "buck & ball". I have Centurion on hand as an ammo option in case SHTF. Its the one on the top left. Man I love the versatility of shotguns. These arent even all of the choices you have either. You still have sabots and flachettes and bolos and probably many more?

thanks for the pics. it is really neat we have all those options for one gun. let me guess the fragmentation grenade isnt an option. the ball in buck looks interesting but i am going to stick with buck shot.

thanks
