So here is the deal, I wear a suit everyday and deal with a lot of "big-deal" guys in the car business and insurance business. I am not a snob but I have always followed the axiom "To be successful you have to look successful" So I need to buy a nice watch. I have plenty of Seiko's and Bulova's and a couple of Citizen's but nothing I would consider high end with any real name recognition. I am looking for a mid level Non quartz watch that I can buy for less than $1000. I was thinking of either a Tag or an Omega or maybe an Oris or Whittenhaur(sp?) any advise or suggestions? (not limited to the above all feedback welcome) please keep in mind while it may sound stupid name recognition is a consideration.

P.S. I am kind of leaning toward an Omega cause, hell, it is good enough for James Bond. Also advise on where to buy a REAL watch at a good price...

I don't know if you'll be able to find an Omega in that price range, but it may be possible.

Oris is very nice, my brother got a great deal on one last year when Macy's stopped carrying them.

There are some Tag's in that price range as well.

Any particular style, or just something that goes well with a suit?

Oris is a great watch for the money,'

My vote goes for Tag or Tissot. :)

Ball are great watches. An Engineer Hydrocarbon Spacemaster X Lume is on my very short list.

But, you can't touch one for 1k.

Really, Oris or some Tag's will be fine.

Oris for an auto under 1K. A used Omega auto could be had if you pushed to 1.5k.
I would also steer you th the MWR Watch Forum. There a guy named Harold Ng (Yobokies) makes some very nice seiko based watches for well under 400 that look very Sinn and Omegaish. He does extensive face and hand mods/replacements. However, the guts the watch remain seiko. Indeed, most of his stuff is completely "sterile" on the face, having no brand name on it at all.

Any other suggestions. I think I may get a Tag Hauer I found a nice one at Sissy's Log Cabin the retails for 1700 and I can buy it for 1300 so I think I may get it.

Is the tag an auto for 1300?

03-07-2010, 16:27
Yes it is an auto.

you should really check out watchuseek like another person said. Did you look at hamilton watches? Breitling(expensive)? You can find some omega's for 1600 or so. I know thats more, but maybe save a bit more.

i have had an omega for 6 years and it still looks awesome. i had it on everyday i have bought other watches but stick to this one. you might be able to find used one for around a grand or so.

I just ordered a LUM-TEC. The 2010 models are available for pre-order for a discount however you'd have to wait until late summer or early fall to get it. I have an Oris TT3 day/date that I really like. I posted pictures of it in a previous post. I paid around $500 but it retails for about $1300.

The Oris is hard to beat in that price range,
The tag 's in that price range will most likely be quartz movement.

Wow, Zombie thread.

I am a Stowa fan, but I really dislike the new Antea.
