I need some opinions.....I want to buy a 1911 in 9mm for IDPA. I really like the STI guns. Should I go with a Spartan (they offer it in 9mm now) or go with the Trojan??

Thanks.

That's a no-brainer.

The Trojan is a much better 1911.

The Spartan is great in its price range, but its built in the Philippines by Armscor, not by STI.

of the 2 you have listed, i'd get the Trojan.

I'm gonna be the black sheep and say the Spartan. ONLY because from my experience, what you shoot in IDPA tends to change from the platform you used to start out with. Now if you KNOW you'll stick with it, then the Trojan is a the better built gun.

IIRC the 9mm Spartan does not have a ramped barrel, so that may sway the OP's decision.

I shoot the Trojan which I believe is a great value in a quality 1911.

I saw a used Spartan at a gun shop this afternoon for $850! WTF is that all about? I can get a new one for $630. It did have a set of Micarta grips on it, but I didn't know they raised the price that much:wow: I was amazed at the price they had on that gun.

That's got to be a mistake.

A used STI Trojan would be more like it.

Here is a very informative review of the STI Trojan and the STI Legacy by Stephen A. Camp from his High Powers and Handguns site. It provides a lot of useful information and may steer me toward the Trojan model in .45acp for my first 1911
