Rock River Arms is owned and operated by brothers Mark and Chuck Larson. Between 1981 and 1991 the Larsons worked at Springfield Armory, Inc., where Mark was the head armorer. From Springfield Armory, the Larsons went into partnership with Les Baer to form Les Baer Custom and build custom 1911 pistols. Parting ways with Les Baer in 1993, the Larsons began to build AR-15 type rifles for Eagle Arms in Coal Valley, Illinois. At around the same time, they began their own venture, Tolerance Plus (the name was later changed to Rock River Arms), producing custom 1911 pistols. The Larson brothers severed their connection with Eagle Arms in 1997 when that firm moved to Geneseo, Illinois. At the same time, Rock River Arms began to build AR-15 style rifles. For a time, Rock River Arms produced M1911 pattern pistols in addition to rifles:thumbsup:

I'd be willing to bet if you asked Les Baer he wouldn't quite call it a partnership.

No, Baer would (:whistling:) call them employee's that learned the trade from him and then started building basically the same lines of pistols as his right down the road.

I doubt we'll see RRA 1911's again. As good as their rifles are, it's much more profitable slapping an AR together than hand fitting a 1911.

Looks like everyone that learns to build 1911's wants to start a new company. Usually down the street from thier old boss.

Works for me. More quality options are never bad.

Seems as though Brown is the unique one in the bunch in that they aren't an offshoot of someone else and don't have a former 'smith down the street under a new moniker.

I don't think he did opened his shop down the road from Brown although.
